I love the look of the red ones! I wanted Dad to buy one of those or an Oliver 1800 Checkerboard. He told me that when I got older I could buy a used one myself. It still hasn't happened.

Probably good you never got one. Didn't the original red ones have some major issues? Seems to me I read once that the factory had a recall or something on them, and when they repaired them they painted them blue to match the later ones.
Don't recall where I read that. Maybe someone here has more info about that.

The earliest production 6000s were claimed to have been released too early without enough testing and had bad SOS problems. They were recalled and fixed. Not sure about the repaint. The later blue ones were branded Commander 6000. We had one in the early 70s and had no problems with the SOS transmission.
