Oxen pulling

Been to a few. Ox and horse pulling are both quite popular in part of the world (Nova Scotia, Canada). Up here a lot of the oxen are named either Lion or Brite. No idea why. Sam

We use to have horse pulls . If you watch this video she says the winner in 2016 pulled 14,500 pounds ?

A fellow I knew had team. They must have been the same breed as Pooch and Hank, but his were a lot bigger, they were full grown. At the fair one time some people were commenting to him how well behaved they were and how well they handled. And he answers to the effect that yes they handle very easily. I was standing a little way off with his soon who whispered: Yeah sure I am the one that has to handle them and it is a LOT OF WORK.

Seen them on youtube but never in person. They even quit doing tractor pulls in this area until recently. It ended up being a certain couple crooked people winning every time so people stopped taking their tractors. Past couple years they've started up again. I haven't bothered to even go watch.

I don't understand the rules...

What are the times displayed?

What constitutes a pull?

Seems like it would be easier to just use the tractor sled.

Steve, the times are top: time of day, bottom: shot clock; each contestant gets only so much time to get his full pull. He can make as many tries as he can get into his time, but it is rarely more than two. A "pull" is whatever the local rules state. It appears that in the video that the boat has to go beyond the side rails, but it can be any set distance and they measure with a tape if it is close or to determine placings. The tractor stone boat is often being used by the tractor pullers at the same time. Or, if you are referring to a transfer sled, probably no pullers would show up if something so radical were done, LOL.

showcrop I was surprised how easy they are to
handle but you can tell it takes a lot of work to get
them to do what you want them to

The yokes don?t choke them at all or they couldn?t
even take one step they get up to 13400 pounds
towards the end of the video . That is as much as
the max pull of a 130 horsepower two wheel drive
tractor

SV, we used to cut through that building that they are pulling in when it was raining while we were at the Big E. Did you google Frank Scruton to see some real Oxen?
