I lost my dad in a tractor accident 10 years ago. When he died, I inherited his cows. 20 crossbred brood cows, with a good beefmaster influence. Locally, some call them "red floppies". They make really nice mama cows, hardy, easy keepers that raise a good calf, even if the calf is a little floppy. I am taking the last three of his cows to the sale today. They didn't breed back last time. It might not be entirely their fault, my bull was more interested in fighting the neighbors' bull. Regardless, they are old cows now. They have served me well, and I am quite solemn about hauling off the last of Dad's cows. It is nice to know that all but of a handful of my cows are descendants of his cows. I sure do miss that man.
