Here is an ebay situation for all of you

A while ago I bought a sales flyer on a piece of equipment I have, old original flyer. The seller had a couple plus some other flyers but I only bought the one. Envelope showed up with a bunch in it and a note!! "I have had these listed for awhile and your the only person who has shown any interest so I included them all and closed these auctions out. Hope you enjoy them!! Well I sure did and thought it was pretty good of him.

jocco,

Very nice of the seller to send them all to you... and very nice of you to send a thank you note.

One time we won a lot of several items - but only wanted one thing in the lot. We'd won it at a reasonable price... so I emailed the seller and told him that he could just send the one item we wanted, as it would save him some shipping cost. Plus, we told him he was free to either resell the other items or give them away.

Some days we can all be decent human beings. GRIN

(quoted from post at 18:41:36 03/19/19) I did a similar thing for a guy in CA who wanted old tractor/ engine magazines and sent him a few xtra to clean out my pile.

A few years ago I bought a group of A-C equipment manuals.
The guy was selling several groups and happened to send me the wrong one.
I told him about it, he sent me the correct ones and told me to keep the others.
I have bought loads of stuff off e-bay in the past 15 years or so.
I had only one bad experience and it involved only a $6 or $7 item.

Is ebay still an auction site or is it now only a buy it now site? Been years since I looked at anything on it.

e-bay is definitely not the auction that it was 5 years ago. Very few new listings of say tractors, maybe a dozen a day and those are usually the same two dealers that never seem to sell any of them, they just list them anew week after week .I guess facebook has replaced e-bay.

Over the last few years I have purchased about 300 items off ebay. I'd say it's a bust as to which it is or a mixture of both. Depends on what you are purchasing. Model trains and associated items usually are a bid item as the seller is trolling for the most money. Some times they are bid with a "buy now" option which is usually well above the existing bid price. Some things seem to be more of a hassle for the seller than they are worth......to them.

I like ebay as you, the purchaser, are protected in several ways from getting screwed. Also I like the bi-directional feedback whereby sellers get to take a shot at buyers.....keeping the playing field level. This is an important element especially when you are serious about an item and want to negotiate some variation with a seller. Seller can look you up, see that you are a strait shooter and work with you.

One thing is for sure. Most items are "Fast and Free". There is a feedback scoring metric on shipping speed. Usually the posting will tell you when to expect your parcel and how it's shipped. I find that some non-ebay suppliers ship your order when they get "a round toit".
