Saw your pictures of the 400 on both threads, it looked good. You beat it back in to shape faster than I could have! Question I have is what is the issue with the original 400 engine you said parts problems? The 400 is one case I like used to be a couple around me but Case was not to popular in my area. Also assuming it is much different than the dc engine?

The whole tractor is basically different from the DC. The engine is a whole different design as is the transmission and PTO. There are only a few similarities. The engine is difficult to work on because they only made the 4" bore in the diesel for 2 years, then went with the super diesel which is 4 1/8" and stayed that way through the 730 and I believe the 770 too. So sleeves are not available anymore except special made. Makes it very expensive to overhaul. If it had been one year newer and had been the super diesel everything is readily available.

OK got it, Don't it always seem like you end up with that rare 1-2 year only when you need parts!!! Did they make a 400 (like yours) in gas?

Yes, and the gas was mostly unchanged all the way to the 770. The gas engine was also used in other applications like combines, so they are quite a bit more popular. The 400 diesel also has the rotary Bosh pump which is worth a lot to sell because they also don't have parts available
