Anyone Know About SteamCleaners?

Hi all!

A friend gave me an Aaladin Steam cleaner last year, and it needed a few small things, and we got it going, but it was more like a hot water cleaner.

Well, the other day I ran another one almost identical to mine, but a Jenny, and it sounded like a jet when the diesel burner kicked it, and it blew REALLY hot water REALLY fast, I was really impressed!

SO I got mine out today to mess with it, and now it doesn't seem to want to fire at all? It will every 3 or 4th trigger pull show some flames coming out the top, but it doesn't make any heat, just a lot of white/grey smoke.

Does anyone know how to work on these things, or trouble shooting? I've been running RedDiesel in mine, (which is what my buddy runs in the Jenny as well), I have good clean fuel to the pump, dad and I suspect that it isn't properly igniting, because it kind of smells like raw fuel when the blower is on?

Any thoughts? Thanks!

They use what is basically an oil furnace "gun".

Fuel oil is pumped up to 100 psi, exits a nozzle as a fine spray, and is lit by an "ignition transformer" and a pair of electrodes.

I'd assume there's hundreds of youtube vids on repairing Aladin oil burners, if not any generic oil burner repair video should get you "up to speed" as to how to trouble shoot and repair.

Sounds like you have a hot water power washer and not a steam cleaner. No trigger on them as once they are fired up and heated up it streams very hot water until fire is shut off. Some have piston pump and some rotary pump. All the steam cleaners we had were natural gas or LP gas fired but the last shop I worked at hat a oil fired hot water high pressure washer. Both have their place.

Probably right, mine has a thermostat on it, and it shuts off the burner as soon as you let off the trigger for the spray gun. Mine is a piston pump as well.

Meyers Pressure Cleaners in Brown Deer Wi. is a good source for parts and lots of knowledge. Check them out

Will the kerosene make that much of a difference? There is a sticker on this one that says kerosene, diesel, or fuel oil.

I'll try it though! Thanks!

Suprise it says diesel. The early Knipco torpedo heaters said only use kerosine. Used 2 of them every year since 1979. Never tried anything except what instructions said.
