4020 Mirror Cup Holder

Well, this does not hold a candle to some of the creativeness and craftsmen ship we see on here but I did accomplish two things this winter after my surgery.

1. We, my young helper and myself (and two others when we re-splined it), got the 4020 back together we split two days before my surgery. I had people lined up to put it back together if I came out of the surgery unable. The two year old clutch had broken lever arm bolts.

2. For the almost 80 year old owner who cannot twist well for cutting hay, I made this combination Mirror and Cup Holder. The Cup Holder is an old PTO Shield. The Mirror is from All States and is curved so he can see the entire discbine head. The mirror mounting has some adjustability. The fabricated bracket mounts to three of the fender mount bolts. It is heavy duty so I am hoping it does not vibrate to much.

Ya, needs paint.

Looks good, but you will have to put a brace to the grab hole of the fender or where the radio mounted as it will vibrate badly and any drink will have to have a lid on it and the mirror won't be very clear.

That's a big concern. I already plan to wedge/glue either a rubber cork or baler belt between the riser shaft and the side of the fender. I could also bolt more weight to the top end. We'll see. Great observation though. Paul

The owner has had it a year now, he says he gets some real positive comments on it. Thanks.

When I split the tractor I had to remove one battery to get to the big bolt, the bottom is just rods across so the bottom was clean. If I just re-drilled two holes I could get it to a point where I would not have to remove the cover to split the tractor, but I guess I have to lift the grounds anyway.

Thanks again. Paul.

Yes, you did a great job,,I like the way you came off the fender mount bolts, instead of drilling the fender...

Thanks. Ya, the fender is already full of holes and severely cracked I assume from a radio. Paul

Yes, made it myself. In some of the pictures you might ask "why" a few times. You have to keep it mind it did evolve and sometimes depended on what was in my iron pile. If I did another I would do the same basic design but tweak a few things.

Thanks everyone for the comments.

Regarding the vibration concern, the owner and I each took the tractor for a ride this afternoon. He was really happy with the mirror placement and adjustability. Overall the mirror cup holder did great vibration wise, again it is built out of pretty heavy material.

I assume you have all had fenders vibrate wildly under certain conditions where the fender resonated with the tractor. Sometimes this is under low RPM or more likely when holding back going down hill. Well, that will be a problem when the pop vibrates out of the can. I don't know what I can do about that. :)

I like it. A friend of mine modified the old boxes to hold a group 31. Starts better don't it? Where are you located?

I'm in La Crosse WI.

Regarding starting, when I started on that tractor it would only spin at 88 RPM. It started poorly if at all.

After a new bigger starter and two Group 31 batteries it spun at 250 RPM. We started it a couple of times today and it was gratifying to hear that starter engage like it meant it.
