The national news tell us there is flooding in Nebraska but not much more. These pics are of a dam in the NE part of the state. Unbelievable is the power of water. Roads, bridges and dams washed out-cattle drowned-what a mess. Prayers sent to the Nebraska people.---Tee

I?m surprised it?s taken this long for anyone to comment.

What a disaster.

They have 81 bridges washed out.

How do you get around? How do you rebuild all that?

81 bridges!

And zero national coverage.

So sorry to hear this. It's awful.

I fear there will be more flooding yet - we still have quite a bit of snow to melt yet in the upper midwest. Hopefully the rains stay away until the snow is gone.

I keep saying we should be treating the lake & river water & putting it back under ground so we have some to pump when it gets dry.

I to was kind of amazed at the lack of national news on the flooding but then again here in Tennessee three weeks ago about the same results. Lot depends on location of these type things, ie. fires in California were news for weeks . Was wondering the other day if any YT folks were affected .

I spent a lot of my youth fishing for catfish below Spencer dam. I either left my dads truck in neutral or park slipped out and it rolled into the creek while we were fishing one time. Had to call my dad from Angels bait shop/bar. One of the hardest calls I have made.

Hope all are well. Feel bad for those that have been affected and if anyone needs help in the Omaha area let me know.

The last picture is of Niobrara Nebraska, the round pool/tank is a blue Harvestor tank the that Nebraska Dept of Roads uses to store Salt Brine for the winter roads, the two concrete pads in the lower left corner off the picture was a storage building and their old shop that I have worked in occasionally the last 20 years. They just built a new site two years ago and have had some close calls over the years. City worker had a video up watching the building go floating down with the flood waters.

A month ago while traveling from Michigan to Kentucky, I saw a lot of flooding along the way, especially in southern Indiana. I wonder if those fields are going to be ready to plant come springtime?

News says that was 90 yr old hydro-electric dam, generated part time electric , supplied water to 2,000 residents of that county around the dam. Rapid snow melt ran into river, storms, ice chunks.

Angel's Saloon is gone, so's the house, and Kenny Angel has been missing since. It's about an hour away. I've got flooding, but nothing too bad, flowing water over about half of a couple quarters, couple cottonwoods on fences.

It won't post correctly if I url this first link, it shows blank when I preview.

80 west was shut down all the way to grand island, there was no place for traffic to go farther due to the blizzard in the panhandle at the same time as the rain.

30 is still listed as closed from Alda to Shelton due to flood waters. The Wood river was not expected to crest til this afternoon. It looked to be about 2 feet of water on the connector from 11 to 30 yesterday when I swung under the bridge from the ethanol plant.

(quoted from post at 09:25:29 03/17/19) That is incredible! No national news coverage about this.

Nope! Who cares? It's just a bunch of deplorables. If that area had been solidly to the left? That's all you would see in the news. Celebs with tears in their eyes begging for money to help out and demanding that the POTUS do something.

Was interesting. Watched a known CNN "talking head" interviewing a lady and she ask the lady where she got her news from thinking she was going to get "CNN" from this lady of obvious African decent. She was told "facebook" and she continued "I can't trust you to give me any real news".

Victor, If they're in Indiana they'll be fine. We manage to do it in MI every wet year just fine. I love listening to the guys down south talking about how it's so late to be combining corn in October. LOL. If you don't have a brain storage/dryer set up, October corn harvest would be best case scenario and only if we have a decent year.

(quoted from post at 12:44:27 03/17/19) Did the store have a water damage sale, or were these two bozos stealing these flat screen TV's? Stan
That photo was looting from somewhere else, not Nebraska.

My brothers farm the home place on the SD side of the line about 30 miles west. The Ponca Creek divides the home place, my brother has to cross it to do chores...fortunately the bridge survived.

After the water went down...ice chunks were like bulldozers...

This photo of a bridge 11 mi. upstream tells why the dam was doomed--unbelievable---Tee

WE are not in New York or California and they do not care, and sad to say but D.C. does t care either, except 1600 Pennsylvanian Ave.

(quoted from post at 17:03:17 03/17/19) The Fort Randall Dam, must be full, is that still holding ok ?
The Missouri river that feeds it empties out an area to the northwest where it was colder and they just had snow. The Niobrara water came from where the rains were, and dumps into the Missouri after Fort Randall...they opened up the flow at Yankton because of that, which is causing the flooding in eastern NE, western IA..

Terrible tragedy here and for those that lost their lives my deepest sympathy for the families.Mother nature is the lady in charge and always will be.I live 130 miles north and we had three inches of rain here.Nobody or livestock here in danger but all the water has to get to the Missouri. For anybody that has never owned livestock you cannot understand what these farmers and ranchers are going through. They will get past this with pure grit and determination. Not a lot of news coverage here but we get by without a lot of things.Hang in ther folks it’ll get better.

Yes I feel terrible for those effected! I am too surprised with that much devastation it wouldn't make the news. But since it's just good folks that don't cry "poor me" and take care of stuff nothing gets mentioned. Our prayers to all effected!

Back in 1969 Hurricane Camille in my area killed over 200 people and washed out roads and bridges all over the Blue Ridge Mountains whole small villages along the Tye,James and Rockfish rivers were totally wiped out,had several people I knew that got swept away and never found.Life goes on but really never really recovers 100%.
