Wondered when that would happen

In my 20 years of mowing I often wondered when the leveling box threaded yoke would go bad. My daughter was dragging her horse ring. I went to park the tractor. There it was, the threaded shaft had pulled out of the threaded yoke. leaving the shaft swinging in the wind. The yoke is an after market part, and made of cast iron. Is the original equipment made of cast steel? Glad it happened today. I had planned to do a mowing job Tuesday. Stan

Ya the ole ...stripped ginzer screw for the hailain inclometer... always gets you when least expected. Sorry Stan, just making light of what I feel is a bit of lacking description in your post. Or maybe it is just that I am confused by a geographical name for a tractor part that I have never heard. No part on a tractor that I know of is reffered to as a leveling box. By your description I think you may be talking about a vertical lift link to a 3 point arm. Which in your case has stripped out it?s adjusting threads for leveling the 3 point arms to raise or hold the attached implement in a proper orientation to the tractor. Secondly, we have no idea what brand or model of tractor this is on. I believe one tractor you use for mowing is a 175 Allis Chalmers but really just stabbing in the dark. Can you please help us out with a few more details?

Leveling box is correct term, but most call it leveling crank. The part with female threads is made of mallable cast. When I worked at Ford, we would replace the steel screw and the treads in the cast would work for a while, as they would wear faster than the casting. The cast part was costly and the steel part relatively cheap; temporary fix to sell an old tractor

Moving a round bale this winter and the left side (without the gear box) pulled apart on my Massey.

It got welded, so far so good.

This was on my MF 231. The JD has a much larger piece, and looks stronger. I haven't got around to changing the seal on the load shaft yet. that's on my list. Stan

The part is on my MF 231 I use for mowing. I thought leveling box was a rather strange name, but that's what it's called. Stan

Ok thanks, not that familiar with Massey terminology apparently. As far as I me thinking you had an Allis, had you confused with Eldon (WA). I think he talks about doing some rotary mower work.

In my 75 years I have never heard of that happening, rod with the threads getting bent yes but wearing out no. I have had several Fords and a Ferguson and one of the Fords will be with me 75 years this comming May and all tractors worked hard. Must be a new tractor thing.
