Wood splitting

I helped out at my brother's place for a while this afternoon sawing up some firewood. After that he demonstrated the home built wood splitter. Works pretty well. I've got a bunch of video to edit and might eventually make it to my youtube channel.

Looks like a good operation. Why the buzz rig and not a chain saw? I'm thinking i remember you guys cutting some small poles or maybe slabs with with the buzz rig. It did seem to be pretty fast at it.

Not sure, maybe its just tradition, but we always liked to use the big, tractor powered saw to cut logs into stove length. If you are working alone I guess a chain saw is the way to go but when a crew is available, those logs get cut up pretty fast. We were a little short handed yesterday with only 3 of our usual 5 to 6 person crew but still got a good bit done. I had a video all edited and ready to save last night but my laptop crashed as I finished. Hour and a half of work lost so I get to do it over again. :x
