On my Oliver 77 the PTO always spins while motor is running. What position does the lever need to be in for it to stop? Thanks

It'll drift some especially if the PTO hasn't been used in awhile.Hook up a PTO implement and it'll most likely stop and once the clutch facings get cleaned up it won't drift as much.As said
back is off forward is engaged important for operation that you feel the clutch go over center when its engaged.

It pulls back and a piece will fall down behind a bolt. I'm guessing that's on? Pull back slightly and then you can push it a couple inches forward. How far should it move?

Grandpa Love, Here area few pictures for you. Shims are needed for adjustment. The previous owner of my tractor took them all out so I couldn?t shut it off. That may not be your problem.

Looks like a project for another day! Was hoping it was just painted in place. Most everything else on the tractors we bought from that feller was. Unbelievable how gobbed up with paint all the moving parts were. I gotta get the choke issues sorted out first....

When you get it apart, you'll see three little holes in the center plate. There are supposed to be little springs in those holes to push the plates apart. I'll bet anything that they're either gone or broken. They're available from Korves Oliver.

To engage the pto push the the lever forward until you feel a snap, to disengage, pull it back until the dog hits the bolt. Always have the engine at low rpms when you engage it to avoid damage. I would hook to something and run it for a while, and then let it set there running with the pto disengaged for a few minutes before you take it apart. It might be fine after doing that. Chuck
