My dad tried that one time with a 3/8 7/16 open end between the pos. post and the box side. The damn wrench was actually glowing!

I was wanting to ask you about the engine quality on a farmall 806 diesel I am mainly concern as to how the early model engine blocks would crack due to not have it piston cooler jets for the liners. I am looking at buying one when I get enough money one day saved up. Everybody else around hear messes with me due to the fact that I’m buying a 50 year old tractor, but I just tell they can kiss my a&&&
 
Well all i can say is this is something that i have not come across YET , i have and early 806 D pushen close to 12000 hrs and the only thing i have done to that tractor since i bought it in like 1998 is i did a valve adjustment For the first time in it's life i put a clutch in it and a IDPTO shaft in it replaced the light switch TWICE a new seat , a steering wheel out of a combine ,put a wide ft. under it for hay making Only and a new set of Fire Stone radials . Could stand and injection pump rebuild and is starting to need a new Hyd pump . and she is a Rag plum ugly with oil leaks But she runs well putting out around 112 Hp. Reason i will not make it like new is if i do someone will want it like the last one i fixed up for myself . Got tired of fixen them up . People are like old Crows , make them shinny and new and they have got to hqave them and will take NOT FOR SALE as and answer and bug you to death . earl 806's had a small oil cooler and the 8 point female head bolts but they did have the oil cooling jets one per hole later 806's still only had one jet per hole the T D 15's ran the 361 with turbo and had TWO jets per hole and a larger oil cooler and in the dozers a larger rad.; . Man i worked for back in the early sixtys bought the First 806 sold in my area straight from the fair on it's first showing to the public , the following Saturday my uncles bought the second one one county south . Both had turbos installed before the first scratch was put in the paint one was used on at the time a large dairy operation owned by my boss the one my uncle bought was used on a tater farm and it pulled 5 x16 semi mounts a 16 foot disc and a john Bean tater harvester . over a 1000 acres of tater and wheat. During spring field work that tractor ran 24-7 when the weather was good with many drivers from 63 till 68 when he went john deere for the powershifts due to the hired help . Only problem we had with the 806 was Pinion and ring gears due to the fact she was turned way up . If the one your looking at does not breath heavy out the crankcaes vent , starts on a cold day with out either and the T;/A will hold in high third or high fourth while loadiong the tractor with the brakes and down shift with out it stopping dead in it's track then she is pretty good BUY it . IF you have to feed it either to get it running and the /A is out walk away unless you can buy it for scrap price and willing to spend another 5-7 grand in parts and machine shop work and you can find and old fart that knows how to work on the 361-407's .

Guess all those tractor that got turned up fuel vise and power wise couldn’t handle them and plus it’s operstor error to when people run the dog out of them.
 
Also would like to ask if it’s worth putting money into an old tractor like that say 4020 806 856 era tractors. Have had a lot of people cut me down for wanting to buy a older gem vs a newer piece of turd.
 
That is totally up to you , It is your money not mine . Today people are plum nuts on old tractor prices ( sorry my thoughts ) I spent a lot of years buying OLD Dead tractors and breathing new life into them , But i did not spend thousands of dollars in buying them . I bought many out of what was called the dead row . Many did not run long enough to make it thru the ring under there own power and would die in line waiting but they would run. Most were gassers with a weak battery and a non working charging system . So that was not a big deal to repair and add in a rebuilt battery and fix the simple items , many had the T/A's out so here again not a big deal when you are set up to do the job and have the equipment and tools for the job along with the parts on hand . Many of the tractors were bought for under a 1000 bucks . So you paid say 750 for the tractor add in 250 trucking each now ya have a grand in it to get it home then a 30 dollar rebuild on the gen. add in 10 dollar new reg. a 25 dollar rebuilt battery do a tune up adjust the valves change the oil and filters and test drive in the field and find out if it can go down the road or in needs more . So you find the T/A is out so ya split it and you stuff in a rebuilt T/A a clutch pressure plate reface the flywheel go thru the MCV and you throw in a two or three year warranty on the T/A with the tractor and NOW you resell and sell they did . Did i ever mess up on buying a tractor only to find out that ya bougth a PIG wearing lipstick , yep i did did i loose money yep i did , it was all part of the education of buying old tractors. But i did not loose as much as the person that just had to have that tractor . Now do i want one of these new tractors , NOPE , will the new tractors last as long as the OLD , nope don't thing so . Got a couple of friends that came into BIG money over night and Bought NEW tractors and NEW pick ups the NEW tractors are seeing a lot of time INDOORS like at the dealer ships and my one friend's NEW Chase I H/ what ever they are now would get it back and before the week was up it was back at the dealership broke down again and again to the point that when they figured out what was wrong and went to get the parts to fix it it was going to take 90 to 120 days for the parts to come in from three different countrys . So they traded him out of it and into a newer one costing him MORE and guess what , it was no better as he did not have it 6 months and it has been breaking down over and over again. But his 1086 that is a total rag keeps on running and his 756 with 14000 hours still runs maybe not well but it still runs with minimum problems. I will never tell a guy what to buy i will say what i like and what i will buy because it is my money and if something goes wrong then i am the one fixen my own if i tell you to buy this or that and it turns out to be JUNK then i am the horses behind . Doing a rebuild on a 361 or 407 is not and engine for the novas doing a T/A is not a plug and play deal either and rebuilding and MCV is not a matter of pulling out the old springs and installing new . You see this on here time and time again . Then finding a machine shop that will do the machine work properly is the next quest , ya never line HONE the block line BORING only then it is wise to use the oversized sleeves and do the cylinder bore off the center line of the crank not of the cylinder bore due to core shift . Several times to correct core shift the hole in question had to be bored out and a repair sleeve installed and rebored to bring that hole back in line . Sleeve install is something else as sometimes due to the heavy PRESS FIT you will get wrinkling in the sleeve and have to ridgid hone to remove the wrinkling and each piston must be fit to the hole . Head work on a 361 -407must be done correctly if you want a good cold starter. and you don't want the valves hitting the pistons as things are vary tight in this area.
 
Appreciate your feedback I’m kind of on the same page with you. I like them old tractors they are easy to work on, but I have heard the d-361 and d407 are a pain to rebuild. I don’t know how much of a pain the 414 or 466 are to rebuild with a wet liner sleeve.
 

Was also wanting to ask what your email was so I can send a video of a 806 that I might buy for cheap price it’s not pretty but runs has what appears to buy smoke coming out near the radiator on front of engine they kept saying bad radiator, I think it’s head gasket idk if you could tell.
