Broken bolt removal

I used the "weld a nut on" method to remove broken exhaust manifold studs from the head on my farm truck. I built the stud up to the surface a little at a time, welded on a washer, then a big nut. It worked really well. If only I could get good enough to do it with the head on the engine!

I have a 2000 3500 454. Do not use the wrong scotch brute pads on that aluminum intake. It was a problem for failure of that lower intake gasket. Might want to get a set of injectors while the plenum is off.

I had a friend that took his to a reputable mechanic that replaced that intake gasket and did not cover the posts well and caused the engine to sease 2 weeks after he got it back.

The old "welding a nut on" trick has saved me many a time....

I did exhaust manifolds on a ford 460 a while back. They had 3 or 4 broken bolts. Fortunately, I could work through the wheel wells and didn't have to pull the heads.

Hold a candle on it while cooling---wax melts in between the threads...helps to loosen the bolt.
