Speaking of harvest

I've been watching about a 50 acre tract of land along the highway near dallas that was planted with cotton. It looked like a good crop but was never harvested. It's about five months late now and it still sits. The cotton is just falling off the plants on the ground.

My neighbor here in western Ohio was combining soybeans on March 3. Don't know the quality.

Rained so much in Alabama that some cotton and soybeans didn't get harvested. Still so wet in most fields that they are still standing. I'm guessing just bush hogged down at this point.

Lots of cotton rotting in the fields around me. Only saw one field of about 50 acres harvested (large plastic rolls) and it was half brown and half white......poor quality and not much of it. Last year that field put out 4-5x the number of rolls, snow white, in season, as was the case for the other fields in the area last year.

Have a friend that was running 3k acres and lost a cotton crop one year due to weather, was the begging of the end for them as the bank owned the crop and they couldn't financially recover from the loss.

i've seen some corn in northern Indiana and southern Michigoon not harvested yet. i figured we had had enough frozen ground they could have gotten in and picked it but they haven't. maybe no place to store it? and we had been sorta dry until last Saturday.

a local elevator has cleaned up one of their outside piles of corn. the 2nd one hasn't been touched yet (1/2 the size of 1st one).

Mac said that the bottom of some of the modules was rotten from sitting on the ground so long, too.

Some of the corn problem in MI is the moisture was to high for the elevator to take it I am told.

I went thru Vardaman, MS last week and saw them digging sweet potatoes. I thought they would have been rotten b4 now but they looked good.

I think they are still playing with cotton out here in west Texas. A tractor drug a module builder past here early this week.

On one of my Dish weather channels (214 or 215) I saw pictures of cotton still standing in Lubbock. Cotton is king out there. Lots of money down the
drain this year.
