where do i find the serial number on a 1950 styled A john deere

If I'm not mistaken it should be on a tag above the belt pulley on the right side--kind of below the distributor, in that area.

Yep. I finally put together a spreadsheet of tractors, serial numbers, air, oil, fuel and fluid filter numbers, etc, plus model and serial numbers for major equipment.

Sure makes the February Filter sale purchase easier, and saves time running outside to see which side of the serial number break something falls
