I never liked case tractors, my friend farmed with case , a 400, 630, 730 and a I think a 1690 4wd, Loren the ACG guy sold him one of them, I think the 1690?? I don't remember, I could never figure out the shift pattern on the 400, I asked his son why his dad likes case, he said because there cheap! Lol, I'm a ford guy, but I'd never want a 8n!!!

I?ve never been a case guy either but we can?t all be the same . The dairy had a case 4490 and that was a pretty nice tractor I thought it ran good and pulled good it was set up just right never did try to power hop which those 4wd tractors can be terrible for that no matter who makes em. I?m a John Deere and ford guy

That is a sweet tractor. I drove a few John Deere's and didn't care for them, I just prefer my Cases. To each his own. But a little ribbing never hurt anyone either. Lol

That's a sharp looking tractor. One of the guys I worked for as a kid had an 870 and a 400. I liked that 870, but like Jay said, shifting the 400 took some practice - it was a triple H pattern with 8 gears in one stick if I remember right.

Those shifters were not great after they got worn some. Mine will get a cover from a 730 with 2 levers. They work great.

I have limited experience on an 830, and even less on a 730. They were both good machines, but I did not care for the Case-O-Matic on the 830. It functioned just fine. I just didn't like it.

If I am not mistaken, that is the first production 70 series tractor that came off the assy. line. A fellow out in the midwest has restored it some what, and He and that tractor have been featured on Clasic Tractor Fever with Brian Baxter.

That is for sure a good looking tractor one came through college that had a bad transmission and the instructor said it wasn?t worth fixing . Wish I?d have bought it for he sold it for scrap price and it was in pretty fair shape

Jon I sure like to give a lot of crap . But I really didn?t mean that other photo I posted to start a war . I took that photo last spring after I put the duals on our 3020 I didn?t even realize the flag was blowing when I took the picture

I thought the purpose of getting a collage ag engineering degree, which I have, was to educate students on how to repair, design and innovate and bring new life to farm equipment!!
When I was in collage shop/lab we were putting V8s in Farmalls reinventing the wheel, and modernizing older tractors and equipment, not sending them to the bone yard. That was back in the late 60's.

Sure does look simple now hehe! I wish there was a decal on the tractor to show that pattern back then!

Adirondack I see a lot of equipment that gets scrapped that I wish I could save but I can?t ace them all although I do my best at trying . I just love taking some old piece of junk that nobody can else can make work or doesn?t want to put the money into it and make it work again
