My wife?s 09 f-150 right front axle is I believe stripped out.the right shaft on the wheel side doesn?t rotate but the part going to the front diff does.does this mean the cv shaft is broken? I?m not real familiar with this design.is this similar to my ford escape front wheel drive?and what brand would be a quality replacement shaft a a reasonable price ?

Have replaced lots of them on the rangers, should be the same setup, trade the old one at napa or carquest, not real expensive.

If it's really stripped in one of the joints a replacement CV shaft will fix the problem.

In my limited experience, it's always been the vacuum operated disconnect next to the wheel bearing that's failed/stripped/broken.

Surf over to www.rockauto.com and you can look up the parts and see prices.

They typically have a choice of several brands (and, of course, there's shipping to be added), but it will give you an idea of cost vs. the stealership or a local parts store.

there may be a vacuum locking hub between the wheel hub and the axle shaft mounted to the inside of the spindle. they would strip out the wheel hub & lock out

You have a vacuum leak that has stripped the Integrated Wheel End out. You need to find the vacuum leak first, then replace the actuator. Have you heard a slight ratcheting noise while drivin the last couple weeks? If vacuum supply is low, the actuator ratchets until it dies. Those require vacuum to stay unlocked. Common things are broken/cracked hoses, and plugged vacuum switching valve on the top passenger side of firewall.
