How far would that cage fly?

Maybe (by the looks of his shirt) he's hopin' to China!

We had one of those in the tire shop building in a facility I used to work at. One day one of the kids working there was inflating a loader tire and misread the label and tried putting in 80 lbs instead of the 8 lbs it called for. The concussion from the resultant explosion almost brought the building down. We ran over and the stunned kid was staggering out of the dust cloud coming out of the building. The cage no longer had straight sides and was now almost a circle.

I repaired a 100 of them without a cage, was lucky to have a chain. My boss didn't worry about safety, we were easily replaced.
In the 80s a local gas station was repairing a split rim tire, the station owner was killed when the rim blew off.
We were lucky i guess.

But if it blows, his first reaction is going to be jump up and run...

Then he'll be knocked unconscious and won't feel a thing!

I worked at a temporary job after retirement, shop air was in the 150 psi range. One day the boss's wife came in driving an SUV with kids and a small bicycle in the back. The boss aired the bike inside the back of SUV with all on board. Yep, blew the tire!
One of the hardest things in my life was not to laugh. I would liked to hear the dinner table conversation that night. joe

That's a tubeless tire though,so it's not a scarey as it first looks. No parts to blow off and take your head off like on a tube type.I find it almost impossible to blow up a tubeless tire in a vertical cage. The weight of the wheel drops down so it can't seat.I never likes a vertical cage for tube types either anyway, the weight of the wheel wants to let it inflate off center.I still have a flat cage setup for the tube types.I honestly can't think of anybody I know that uses a cage on modern tubeless tires. They lay them on the floor, clamp on the chuck, and hit the bead with the air blaster to seat the bead.If that was a tube type tire I would be wanting to lay that cage on it's side with the tire in it.
