OT Dog Strange Eating Habit

We have a Sheltie about one year that spends almost of his time with the cattle, We have found that he eats very little and recently found that his main diet is calf poop. Is this abnormal?

Is it abnormal, no, is it a little disgusting, ya especially when he kisses you. But every dog I ever had liked hot lunch.

Not uncommon for a dog to eat some. But if making a complete diet of it, I would say that's odd. If calves are being fed corn, alot of it will go through thier system un-digested. Is this what's going on? He eating it because of the corn in it??

My dogs have always enjoyed eating the poop from my horses. Very yucky, but normal. Asked a vet why they did that, vet didn't have an answer. I made sure the dogs never ate any horse poop for at least a week after I had wormed the horses.

They are trying to tell you that the dogfood you are feeding them is terrible and they rather eat the horse doo. Or just trying to get the dogfood taste out of their mouth!! Sorry couldn't resist. Most dogs lick their rearend to get the bad taste out of their mouth, yours are going beyond theirs!

Coyotes hang around cattle herds during calving, which most people know. But they aren’t there to kill calves. They’re there to eat the placenta if they can get it, but mostly they’re there to eat the newborn poop.
