Dang it!!!!

I was going to spread some manure today. Glad it happened at home, not out on the road.

I think NH is kinda known for that, their axles hold manure on top and create rust through?

I wouldn?t fill up your extensions with good heavy manure, it looks like you did not but maybe in the past that was some extra stress at times? Spreaders generally can barely handle what they can hold of good normal heavy manure, wouldn?t want to add that much extra!

Bummer any which way.

Problem with NH spreaders, is the axle is just the same material the sides are built from. Bent and formed into a box axle with a stub axle welded into the ends. Old spreader I had did that, so we just made a new axle out of channel , and welded stub axles

I had one do that only caught it as it was rubbing the box. I cut the axle out from under it and put in a axle out of an old AC 66 combine. I had the change out the stub shafts for the bigger tires. Used it for a lot of years after that too

I don't know anyone with a NH spreader that hasn't done some repair to the axle because if its design.

Did one a couple years back for a friend, used the beam from a junked plow. That spreader is still going.

I had the same thing happen to my New Idea last spring. Fortunately we were able to get it unloaded. It came back to the barn with the wheel rubbing on the side of the box.

I put some pretty heavy loads on mine and the only problem I had was breaking the chain and the belt slipping...

Yup, NH designed a crappy axle system, pun intended. What is the term? "Average life expectancy" and "planned obsolescence"? IMO NH makes some very, very good equipment, but that doesn't apply to teir manure spreaders.
