What would this thing be built for?

I believe it's what they called a "mudder". They use them in the vegetables in California where things are hand harvested and loaded in the field. They irrigate overnight to cool the vegetables then use those high narrow four wheel drive tractors with a creeper gear to pull a wagon or conveyor across the wet field.

At one time I grew alot of ginseng in central WI using tractors that were lifted that high, but could fit under the shade cloth. Ginseng is grown in beds that are 6' wide.

Very common in the sugar cane fields of south Louisiana.although usually with a little wider tires, and usually a JD or Agco used for cultivation and ditching

I have only seen tractors used outside the cranberry beds, on the elevated ground. The sprayer tractors have long booms with a large counter weight on the other side. The boom is long enough to reach half way across ed the bed and then they use it on from both sides. The locals use the lower profile tractors with wide tires. Like the 800 series Fords.

Month or two ago there was a channel 21 PBS show about ginseng growing in Wisc.. Didn't know it was that big a deal.

Mudder tractor for veggies, but I'd say that's a regular M7060 with custom wheels rather than a true mudder.

Stark Brothers Nursery has one close to that for their work. If it is time to trim, spray or dig, you just have to get it done, rain or shine.
