Six volt to twelve conversion

So I like to just make a new bracket and mount a 10SI with three wires. Done it several times. But I am fixing up an Allis CA to mount a mid mower on. There just is not enough room for a 10SI. Someone on the Allis board said that I could just put a 12 volt cutout on the old six volt generator. When I looked on line for a 12 volt cutout I found an all electronic one from DB electric. Part number B8001-002. My question is, has anybody had any experience with these cutouts? It is supposed work on 6, 12 and 24 volts. Hope I am not stirring up a big can of worms! The cutout would not look original, but this CA already looks like Dolly Parton's Coat! If you remember the song.

Use a Hitachi 12431 will fit. The L terminal is to the ignition through a diode or 10 ohm resistor, or marker lamp. the S terminal goes to the output stud. Jim

An electronic cut out is just a heavy diode. I would think it will only work in place of an early low amp generator that originally only had a cut out instead of a regulator.

I agree with Jim, find a compact alternator, get creative with the mount, tuck it in, make it fit.

I have a 1952 CA with a 10 si alternator on it. It fits good. The mounting bracket came from the YT parts dept. Look on this site first!

I just remembered! I had to follow the directions that came with the bracket, and cut off a small piece, and then drill a new 3/8 hole. Also I put a gentle bend in my steering link, to clear the alternator. Their bracket will fit B-C- and CA, so therefore the work I had to do.

I think the pulleys are interchangeable if it is held on with a nut.

Might even try the pulley off the generator. Just pay attention to the spacers under the pulley, might have to add or take some away.

(quoted from post at 16:01:26 03/04/19) So I have looked at mini alternators, but they have narrow v belt pulleys. Is the shaft in them the same as a 10si?

Yes. I put a couple of those mini alternators on a couple of my MM tractors. I just took the narrow pulley off and reused my original pulleys.

Standard practice.
