Can't find any wood pellets within 100 miles of Dyersville Iowa. My questioin is can I burn corn in a pellet stove until some become available with out damage to the stove? It is a Breckwell Big E and not a corn/pellet model.

Absolutely. Save some pellets to start the stove with though. Corn will not start off the stove igniter, air and fan settings may need to be adjusted too.

Corn will need to be around 15% moisture to get good heat without issues trying to burn it.

What kind of stove do you have?

I have a traeger . I dont know if it would ignite the corn. Can you order it and have it shipped to you???

the one i had would not burn straight corn. the auger would feed to fast. i doubt you can do it.

Try the farm stores...they may also have pelletized horse bedding...same thing but probabally different isle

David where you located? Would be willing to go that far. Let me know, I will not be available until Tuesday.

You might think about other farm products such as oats or wheat. They will burn much faster ,so you will have to advance your feed rate setting.
Those products will be far less efficient, but can get you by.

The only way I wouldn't try corn is if it is still under warranty. You certainly can get a bag of corn and start blending it in and see what happens.
If it was between having or not having heat I know what I'd be doing.
I've had a solid fuel stove for 10 years and only burned pellets the first year. Since then it has been exclusively corn.
If you don't have a pellet/corn stove model, what model do you have?

depends on your stove. many of the true pellet stoves were not designed to burn corn. Most of the corn stoves have a small agitator in the fire pot to stir the corn to keep the klinkers down. I had burned some corn in my pellet only stove but only about 25% mix. quit burning corn as to buy it was just as much or more expensive than pellets. have farm sources too but for the small amount i would burn it isn't worth bugging those guys for a bushel or 2.

around here (north Central IN) pellets are in short supply too but i do have a couple places to get them that still have them in stock. Prices have gone up. bought what should be the last of the pellets for us for this year last weekend. paid about 175/ton last fall. last weekend was more like $200/ton and some places like TSC were higher. TSC brand i had tried (matched Big R price) were really bad for klinkers.

your pellet stove should be able to burn cherry pits if you can find them i would think pits would be cheaper but they never have been. only thing that makes sense for the higher prices is they have to maybe wash and dry them but otherwise just bag them.

Correct, you can also burn the pellets made for BBQ grills but they are usually high priced, but in a pinch will get you by.
