More pics--just joking about being chained down-trucker said a hook broke. Can't tell if it is new-looks like all the paint is on the feeder house drum.---Tee

When that happened to me, people came from miles around to see the thing laying on its side in the road. The most excitement they had in that part of the country for years.

I can laugh about it now.

If a hook broke where were the dozen other chains at that he should have had on that load.

I wouldn’t write it off just yet. If it plopped over good and flat the innards might still be straight. It probably couldn’t be sold as new though if it is fixable.

That ain't gonna hammer out. Same as unibody cars versus car with ladder frame. Somebody better be fully insured and bonded. You should have seen when they put a Mobil crane through the county bridge over the railroad a few years back. Totaled the bridge right into the railroad cut. Truck and all. BOOOM!

Not somebodies best day. The Chain flopped over the front drive axle then pulled tight should have been pulled down in a different manner or bigger chain. I would yes either double up on the chain if 3/8th's or use 1/2 inch. 4 good 1/2 inch would hold it just fine. Combine weights in at about 45,000 with no tires and 4 1/2 inch chains would come into the 36,800 range so would be sufficient for the job if you look at the tiedown requirements for a load like that.
Of course this also requires some common sense to go with it.

Yep, machine is totalled, would be some good parts left in it. Deere Harvester needs the work. Build the customer another one, and have somebody with a brain haul that one.

Best reason not to spend a lot of time passing a semi, you never know what can happen to the load. Glad no one was hurt.

Good chance the insurance company will be selling the Deere.

Cat guy your jumping to conclusions. That chain your saying is "flopped" over the axle is not. That chain is hooked to the TEE hook that goes in a slot right on the frame behind that final drive.

Guess what??? If that is a brand new combine from the factory, he did not chain it down. You lay your chains and binders on the trailer before you back into the bay at the JD plant. They load it with a crane and they chain it down. Too many getting damaged by idiots over tighten binders with long cheater pipes. Lot of "Super truckers" out there.

I agree with what JD Seller stated. Trucks hauling JD tractors or equipment don't pass out of JD factory gates unless items are chained/wired down to trailer to JD inspectors satisfaction. BTDT

Man you guys are tough. None of you know the facts, but you all have the answers. I really do not think the driver did it on purpose, give him a break. Just be glad it was not you, then everyone could be talking about you.

muleboss The ytdot spares no one when it comes
telling the lesser man how what and why they did it
wrong !! We?ve got to nip it in the bud
