Did I ruin this bearing

Its not looking to pretty but get all the grease out of it and look at the rollers and feel it when you slowly roll it. Im ugly but i still
work so hey just cause it looks bad dont mean much.

What would keep me from using that bearing is the fractures around the broken out places, they cause
stress rises which can and will crack the edge off the groove the balls roll in, Bearing races are made
from 52100 steel, heat-treated fairly hard, ideal for propagating cracks.

It's a tapered roller bearing and the "lip" you broke is a thrust surface for the large end of the rollers.

You've ruined it.

That is not going to hold the rollers in place. Could jamb things and ruin everything else with it. REPLACE. Bearing is going to be cheaper than a thousand dollar repaire bill because you tried to save a buck.

Thanks I figured I had ruined it and was afraid to trust it. Called around and found a parts store that could order it. I will be a lot gentler with this one.

(quoted from post at 05:29:26 03/02/19) Ford rear axle bearing? Amazon has it for about $80, not as cheap as I would have thought.

Exactly right, 640 Ford rear axle bearing. I thought it had not seated well so I hit it again. Found it at the parts store for $28.99. Lesson learner, the hard way!

Surprises me how New Holland marks things up.
O-ring $9/Parts store $0.49
Bearing race $18/Parts store $3.99

Soon I will have the price of a new tractor in my 640. I could not imagine paying someone to do all the work.

My learning curve may cost me a little here and there, but still cheaper than having someone else do it.

PBurchet, what were you hitting it with. A 3/4 drive socket with the 6 inch extension in it makes a nice driver.
