It ain't that funny anymore. I look out the window and wonder where am I going to push all this new snow (8 to 10) and the wind just picked up and I can't see the neighbors any more. The LP tank in the back yard is just a bump now. So much for climate change by Rochester, MN.

My son lives in Rochester and has a snow removal business. He has been working round the clock. You folks have been getting a lot more than we have. Many people who shovel can't throw it over the piles anymore and ask him to blow it for them. He bought a new JD tractor and blower and has made enough this winter to pay for it twice.

Snowplow mafia I call them.
held hostage by the incompetent unwilling or unscrupulous

They start off the contract with great care and attention.
Hand it off to some methead idiot as an inhouse deal
He in turn holds you off as extortion to maybe a cash gratuity
then they take new clients all season long as they all seem of about the same caliber and intent.
fed up and trying to find anyone reliable

I call BS the fire escapes and entry points exits the same under 6 feet deep 10 feet wide hardpacked plow deposits, the landlord 3 states away and the plow jerk a screwyou attitute
maybe one of the tenants will take the bait

I call the fire marshal

Funny is as funny does

the chunkiest snow tires gets you out of the yard off to work but exhaust systems can be in the thousand(s) as they are torn off

Bemidji has gotten 46 inches since we left according to accuweather, and I don't think much of it has melted. My snowblower and myself are going to get a workout when we get home in 2 weeks. The worst part is the bank at the county road, it is frozen and I have to chop through it.

It's all relative. JD makes a lot of different tractors and blowers. If we are talking about a garden tractor that's one thing. A 35 hp light utility with a mounted blower...then he is raking it in! :)

Dave it is all relative but they are busy moving snow around Rochester this year. I have a nephew that is in the landscaping/snow removal business up there. He bought two NEW end loaders and has paid for them both since the first of the year. My one son went and helped him for a week. They did not shut down for four days straight at one point. They are getting so much that they have to clear while it is snowing and then haul it away after the storm is over. One fellow with a fleet of tandem dump trucks said he has been busier this winter than he was all last summer. Hauling snow out and sand/salt in.

Don't know what it cost, but this is the rig. Liquid cooled gas, 4x4 with 4 wheel steer. He is not impressed and is thinking about getting a kubota, the JD blower has given him quite a bit of trouble especially with the plastic fan

There was a local story here, a young man took his truck and snowblower over to Seattle a couple of weeks ago when they got hit with snow, made $35,000 in a week. Not much competition since they rarely get snow, I suppose he could charge whatever he wanted...

Jon have him talk to his dealer. They used to make two levels of snow blowers for the larger garden tractors. The one he has is the residential one. I think they make a commercial one that is heavier built. The reason they offer two is the commercial one is about double the price. The average home owner does not need that heavy one.

My Grandfather lived in town. He was forever griping about how he would no more than get his sidewalk and driveway blown out and the village plows would fill em back in again. I was temped to ask him, "Why not do the sidewalk and drive way and hour later, after the village plow went through?", but I figured that was something 10 year olds should not be asking grandfathers............................

We haven't had much snow this year but we are getting a lot of ice. Some years are very bad though. I was thinking of a way that I could end all significant snow in SE Michigan. All I have to do is go out and buy myself a big 4WD truck with a fancy blade on it and a salt spreader and make plans to hire myself out. That will do it. No snow in SE Michigan until I dump the truck. Two years ago I dropped $3K on a Honda snow thrower in December. Not a flake came down here the rest of the winter.

Didn't get hit with any snow today but current wind speed is 29mph and with the snow we got on thursday I wouldn't want to venture out in the country. The street department here in Moorhead,Mn. is struggling to keep up. High snow piles at the intersections make driving a low vehicle tough. Oh well spring is just around the corner.

I have the steel one and aside from being quite heavy, blows back into the street. I get a letter sometimes from the city about that and I love it! And to make us feel better with a 10 degree F temp, it's only 20 degrees colder than Tucson! My son calls this SNOWNAMI! And one more tidbit of info, the Kardasians are keeping up with us as they registered snow on Friday! Western Iowa with 25 inches in 8 days.

Sorry but I forgot to mention that the 2 robins that frequent my bird bath are wishing that they had flown south. Must be stubborn Norwegians like I am. LOL

It was so bad I called the dealership and asked them what to do. I was afraid the warranty would run out before it ever got turned on! :)

That ten minute thing won't work. They have to just keep plowing trying to get down to the base and make street wider. They push the stuff right under my pickup which is parked well beyond the curb line. We have a whole new street crew this year due to retirements and it is a challenge for them and for us home owners.

We're down between Mankato and Waseca. We've had our share in the last month also. Last night we didn't get much, but the wind is blowing horrendously! We're only about a mile out of town so we did go to church. Couldn't see for squat, but the roads were actually crystal clear! No snow on them, except in a couple spots.

Serves him right for blowing it out onto the road.

Blow it up against the house for more insulation and to keep it from getting plowed back onto the sidewalk.
