Must be a mid-west thing. They brought far more than they were worth here. Farming here is on the skids, and "pulling tractors" are like buying land full of quicksand sink holes!! Sooner or later you are going to be sucked in and trying to keep your head above water.

Only one item in group I would even ever have considered owning, rest are scrap yard items to me.

Looks like pretty strong money on today's market. If you have some Oliver GM diesels and hope to get a lot more, you may wish to pass them on to your kids so you don't suffer the disappointment yourself.

I have a lot of tractors I'd sell for a lot less money than that.
The only one I see there that would interest me is the S44.
They're pretty scarce but I probably wouldn't have gone that high.

Follow up on Olivers--I guess I don't know my Olivers! Before I bought my S-99 I went to a Sale in Ohio to buy one for $25,000 but that is where the bidding started--brought $49,000--Went through Indy on the way home and Mister Oliver-Ollie Shaffer's truck was sitting by the side of the freeway with the S-99 on the trailer--No one around. So $8000 was too much today? The is one on Tractor house for $18,000 also? Went to a sale at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa a couple of yeas ago to buy a MF 98--$18,000 bought it--I quit at $12,000--today 2 for $7000. Went to Sparkies sale at Jesup, Iowa 2 years ago-44 Oliver brought almost $10,000--today--$4200. Went to Lyle Dumont's sale a Sigourney, Iowa 2 years ago to buy a Detroit Oliver--came home with a empty trailer. Can you people tell me what you base your value of Olivers on? Please tell me about the sales you went were that had collectable Olivers on. Thank You---Tee

Thanks Loren-- I don't have any quicksand on my farm--Got a lot of 83b which on the soil maps is Kenyon loam--So I am going to keep tractor pulling and buying Detroits!---Tee

I would sooner pull my tractor than watch it gather dust in the corner of my shed..---Tee

"Can you people tell me what you base your value of Olivers on?"

What I might be able to use the tractor for. Regardless of brand.
20 years ago, Farmall Cubs were bringing $3500 around here.
Lucky to get half that now. Ford N series the same way.
Yes, those are common tractors, but illustrate that the market has changed.
The S44 or a S99 hold some collector value for sure but I don't
believe it is as high as it used to be because there are less collectors.

I go to lots of sales and those prices are real soft compared to just 3-4 years ago...There are precious few of the 3 cylinder Detroit Olivers in my area..

Looks like they brought decent money for today. Those junk 8 N Ford's are doing good to bring 500.00 here. Over course they have to run.

You are right about the value--the prices are down. But the more rare an item is in my experience the better it has held its value. The common tractor that Dad-Grandpa-Uncle Bill farmed with are the ones that took the biggest hit. The age of the collectors has changed--The Deere 830-730-630 and other makes of the same era down in price. Today The Deere 6030-IH 1206 AC-D-21 Oliver 2255 are what todays collectors Dad's farmed with. What's is next? Who knows---Tee

Thanks for the reply 1206--Things are changing--Did you buy it? Oh that's right--WRONG COLOR---Tee

No,I didnt buy it.....However,it really isn't the wrong color..Here I am at Carthage,MO a few years back pulling the 13,200 class..I still have the tractor..I'm a huge Detroit fan..

Neat, I like it--The more I know about you--The better I like ya! Son Ray came down this afternoon and I asked him if he saw you at Tulsa-Said no-When Ray was pulling my tractor you were standing to my right and I didn't see ya-you should of said hi-Sorry. That is the picture you took down below-Thanks again. What is that Olly-1900 or 1950--For sale????? You want a job-I bought a White 2-150 a year and a half ago with the intention of putting a Detroit 8-71 in it--They both just sit there-It would be a good winter project for you--OK--Thanks---Tee

Thats a Oliver 1950 with N70 injectors turning 3000 rpms..I talked with you for about a minute Saturday at Inola not long after the pull first started..You probably didnt recognize me with a stocking cap on.....I was at trackside almost all day taking pictures..I put lots of them on the Outlaw Pulling Forum..Thanks for the offer of a 8V-71 Detroit project but I have a 1964 model CO-4000 IH road tractor with a 8V-71 in it which I havent heard run in quite a few years..

Even with a soft market those Ollies should have sold for $10-15K each...I've seen rough non runners ones bring 7K but that was several years ago......Pulling tractors often sell better than stock ones in my area...If that sale had been close to me one would have been at my place now..

I met so many people that weekend I am thinking back if I remember talking to you again-I apologize. People would come up and say-so your Ray's Dad-and start talking-I am getting older. I agree about most pulling tractors bringing more-but some people put a set of press steel rims on and front end weight bracket on and call it a winning pulling tractor and want big money for it. Good luck with your IH and the 8-71---Denny
