Testing a Delco Remy starter on a IH 350.
I should have no continuity between the case and the field winding's, correct?
TIA

With nothing connected to the big "through the belly" stud or the copper tabs where the brush leads connect to the field coils there should NOT be continuity from either of the 3 connection points to the "frame".

Or with the brushes lifted off the armature with a piece of thin plastic, (if you do not want to take it very far apart) there will not be conductivity. It is a series wound
motor. Jim

I'm repairing this starter for an elderly neighbor.
I have the winding's out, what is the best way to re-insulate them?
Electrical tape, I have some old school cloth tape maybe zip ties to space them out, duct tape?

there is a cloth rap for insulating the winding's , best to remove the old rap and clean
them with an electrical cleaner if there's any oil on them before re insulating them.

I've always used the cloth rap, I wouldn't recommend electrical tape.... cloth tape? I
suppose you could try it.
