Does law enforcement do anything in your area? Every time I think of selling my farm here in what amounts to a suburban area I read a story like yours about what is going on in
really rural areas drugs, theft, trespassing etc I think I'd better stay put.Cops here have a 5 minute response time and my suburban neighbors never steal anything and rarely are any problem.
Very low crime area we all look out for each other for the most part.I also have Nest live video cameras at both houses on the farm so any comings or goings when I'm not here is recorded
for me to review for two weeks if needed.

There?s no doubt about it......you need a WALL....a big, beautiful WALL.
And, the thieves will pay for it!!!

Gates, fences, locks, demolishing unused buildings, checking property often, or hiring private security would be much more effective at keeping people out than cameras. Securing property to keep people out will prevent most problems from happening in the first place, cameras just record what happened after someone broke in.

Relying on cameras and expecting law enforcement to fix chronic problems on unsecured property is really just shifting security costs to the taxpayers.

Those cameras would be set up to alert me when motion was detected. I would enjoy using my rifle with scope. A few rounds down range and people get the message.
Then again, If you wanted to have fun, You can get a bull horn and say loudly....
"Is there anyone down range?, Is there anyone down range? If there is anyone down range, Indicate by sight, sound or motion."
Wait three seconds and then say,
"The range is open, The range is open, Commence fire!"
Then just start blasting away and watch the fun.
It's also nice to have an AR/AK whatever and a drum feed.
I don't have that yet, but I have sent some rounds down range and they all stay away.
I know what direction the one 'neighbor' lives, about 1/2 mile away and the other 270+ degrees is not a problem.

Make sure your property is WELL posted. Then get the Game Warden and Sherif involved. Signs should say "No Trespassing, violators will be prosecuted and over post on all sides.

Wow, some people are just awful. I cannot imagine ever going on someones farm without their permission, let along damaging private property.

Where do you live, because I have not heard of this thing happening too often in Pennsylvania.

Yeah, that can be tough when people are determined to get in. Most vacant farm houses and remote isolated barns just become an "attractive nuisance" that are magnets for crime and are more trouble than they are worth. Bare land can sell as well or better than land with a older building site because the buildings are considered a liability rather than an asset.

Once the attractions are gone, heavy cattle gates chained with 3/8 chain and a bolt cutter proof padlock (round style) will keep most kids and nosy neighbors out. Hunters can be a mixed bag, some are great and some are there to scout the property.

ost back later.............I expect that you will report that the sorry b_____ds stole your cameras! :x

(quoted from post at 03:08:25 02/22/19) gates, fences and locks are used now, what else do I do?
rom your post it sounds like you are an absentee land owner, only showing up occasionally. All the rift raft know this, more activity around will deter their behavior. IMHO, you would be better off to have some honest hunter to help you patrol your property. Instead of putting up posted signs to try to keep every body out. I would put up signs saying hunting by permit only with your name and number. As tough as it is to find a place to hunt, a reliable hunter would be glad to help keep watch over the property for the right to have a place to hunt. Give the person a permit in writing stating he has the authority to throw those with out a permit off or call the law if needed. Word will get out that the property is patrolled and things should settle down..
