Only 60 years left

Been hearing it all my life, but technology seems to stay just a few steps ahead of any of us getting rich.

Thomas Malthus was an 18th-century British philosopher and economist famous for his ideas about population growth. Malthus' population theories were outlined in his book, "An Essay on the Principle of Population," first published in 1798. In it, he theorized that populations will continue to grow until growth is stopped or reversed by disease, famine, war or calamity. He developed what is now referred to as the Malthusian growth model, an exponential formula used to forecast population growth.

The short version held that agricultural production was capable of linear growth at best, and populations grew geometrically.

Synthetic protein sources will be wide spread in a decade according to leading farm magazines such as Farm Journal. The agriculture we know today might be a distant memory only a few decades into the future.

I remember being in elementary school in the early 60s and saying I wanted to be a farmer, just to be told that by the time I was grown up there wouldn't be any farmers,we'd get all our nutrition by taking a pill. I'm still waiting for that flying car we were supposed to have by 1969 too. LOL

Pretty much told the same thing when I was in elementary school during the 1970's but no work was being done on synthetic protein then. The space program was pretty much about preservation of existing nutrients over extended periods. Today the research towards synthetic food sources is happening at the universities and high tech companies. I would not sleep on it anymore.

I often wonder what the world would look like today if the millions of people murdered or who died from disease over the last two centuries had lived...

Plenty of things around with more sure to come that will thin out the human race like Nuclear War,EMP attack, new diseases etc the list is endless. But hey why worry we'll all
be dead from Global Warming in less than 20 years anyway, you'd of thought those folks would have heard of that.(LOL)

Well, around here every time a family sells out, The farm turns into Real Estate. But that's alright. "We get our food from the store anyway."

Loren, you're too close to NYC and the latest nut case to come from there. We need to get you off to Florida or Arizona for rest and recuperation! You shouldn't be bothering yourself with this garbage.

That article contains so many false staements and disproved thoeries that it is astonishing that it ever was published, then again, maybe not, most of the news printed or broadcast each day is fake news.

About 2 months ago a restaurant in Indianapolis starting offering the "Impossible Burger" a burger made from textured wheat protein and some other plant based ingredients. No word on how successful it is yet. In the next 30 days the Nestle Company is going to introduce the "Incredible Burger" made from soy protein and other plant based stuff. Nestle is saying this market is growing and they project millions is sales revenue from these new products, next few years. Would guess their target market is millenials(younger folks). We have 900 million bu soybeans stuck in our pipeline now since we lost overseas export markets so these new burgers might be a good outlet for those beans if these products happen to be successful. We still need to take the best care possible of our lands even thou we are over producing now but will need that extra food production capacity 10-20 years out.

Bob;
I didn't say that I was buying in on it, but was a bit surprised By who's website that it was. They are heavily dependent on agriculture for their existence, and promoting soil health, which are critical to food production.
I can remember all the "Truck Farms with black dirt along the Mohawk Valley. Most of that land is parking lots for malls now. Some of those Malls have now been abandoned, and all that exists is broken concrete and blacktop with poles and weeds sticking up. Signs of the Times, I guess.

I am sure that there are many people think that store thing is where it is produced. Some do not know the difference.

You mean i been buying milk from the grocery store and they dont actually make it there. WTH!!!!!!!!! :)

Just goes to show you more reasons to drink Beer

Randy,
I am a little older than you and I remember that it was going to be Eisenhower's fault because he was going to cement all the good farmland under and we would all starve to death.

It won't be long til we can't afford to put fuel in the machinery tanks to farm anyway. Carbon tax is going to gradually push fossil fuels out of production to slow down climate change. What will we run the machinery on? Electric? Solar power? Go back to horses?

Shoprat, I doubt that you actually read the article and even if you did read it I don?t expect you to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff by actually knowing what you are talking about, so by all means, go ahead and make sure not to let facts confuse the pablum your spoon fed. If you knew anything about soil conservation and erosion control you would also know what statements in the article were absolutely incorrect, propaganda is spread to influence weak minds, do you qualify?

Final lines of book/Movie: Soylent Green is made from dead people! Or something like that. Cannibalism horror movie used to be rare ( think of Hills Have Eyes or CHUD)-- but with the Vampire and Zombie films, TV shows the idea of eating family or hunting strangers for supper is getting accepted as possible future- and seems some African disputes going back to old practice. Kuru may become a problem for 'civilized' society as well as primitive eater of their elderly bodies. Or we'll have humor that bites. RN

LAA, please enlighten us on some of the misconceptions listed in the article and present us with the actual facts, and where you found them.
I'm not arguing with you, but I am curious about the real truth and factual input.
