One reason this is happening is that farmers refuse to organize, form a union, the NFO tries that many years ago and it didn't work very well, I remember it well. One reason farmers are farmers is their too independent, they don't want anyone telling them what to do. I know many of you are against unions, but they created the middle class and once their gone, who is going to buy the new cars and houses being built?

Unions are worthless. Union workers all seem to think the world owes them something. I experienced working with union workers. I was called casual help (part time). I worked grinding crankshafts at my day job then hired on busting freight on a dock for part time work. Those guys were the laziest no helping people ive ever meet.

Unions did not create the middle class, actually Southern states like VA with very low union membership would never have had a middle class under your theory. In the North unions helped drive the companies with good middle class jobs out of business.

The only thing worse than a union if if the possibility of a union wasn’t available.

I wouldn’t want to live like that. I really dislike govt control and micro management, why would I add another layer of the same thing over me? Basically what a union is, just another layer of govt controlover me.

I’d sooner apply for my Snap card and subsidized housing and get my free cell phone and knee brace and watch tv all day than join a union.

Blah!

But again, it would be even worse if the possibilities of a union weren’t available. Certainly not for me tho!

Father-in-Law said the same thing. Went to a meeting in the 1950's where the Farmers were told that if they withheld their corn from being sold, they could get a nickel more per bushel. Old farmer in the back of the room stood up and yelled 'as soon as it goes up a penny, I'm selling.' Organizer said that's the problem-you fellows won't stick together. Now farms are being lost to foreclosure and guess who's buying them? Hint: It's the most popul;ated Country on the Planet and Iowa's former Governor is right there giving his 'best bud' advice.

So, we farmers in Minnesota got together and used our money to build ethanol plants so we could raise the price of our crops from the 1980s.

Did -exactly- what you are saying, got together and raised our prices a dime, the local basis is what went up.

And look at all the hate on here for ethanol, everybody loves the big oil monopoly much better, hate on those independent farmers that dare raise the price of a box of corn flakes a nickel!

The NFO deal never woulda worked then it wouldn’t work now.

People want farmers to be just like that painting of the old guy with a pitchfork and his blue haired wife, old, brlokeb down, poor, and give the food away from their 40 acres so the town folk can spend their money on 75 inch TVs.

The multinationals controlling all aspects of farming is probably closer than many of you realize. They are using govt on their side now, farmers don’t own tractors, we own lumps of metal and plastic the software that runs them is leased, owned by the company. Most livestock has become custom contract farmed, the farmer is just a feed and manure hauler and building owner. The eco-green movement is all about laws that concentrate the power and wealth into a few hands,it’s not about making a better environment.

We are well down the path.

Big oil produces a better product than the ethanol folks,as witnessed by the fact the gov't doesn't have to force people to use big oil's product like they do ethanol. The only people that like ethanol are the ones that make money off of it.You don't like to buy organic food. How would you like for the Gov't to force you to spend 15% of your grocery $$ on
organic products to keep organic growers in business? No different from the gov't forcing ethanol on the rest of us.Let the Free Market decide what sells and what doesn't.
Actually the whole ethanol deal has done more to damage to US farmers' reputation with the general public than about anything I can think of.
