Mega bridge building.

Watching those towers go up and the roadway spans being placed I had of vision of playing Legos with my Grandsons. Wonder what grade those section bolts are? It will be interesting to see how it stands the test of time. Thanks for sharing the video.

in all my steel bridge designs I used ASTM A325 bolts--usually 7/8 Dia and varied the number due to the loads involved

Did you follow the bridge mess going from the PA turnpike to the NJ Turnpike interconnect. Two years ago and messed up traffic for several months. Remember 5he reports saying the construction methods back then and now are very different. 5hey found it when 5he crews were getting started to paint the bridge, 14 inch brace just snapped.

yes the methods have changed--that has to be an old bridge as you can see the first plate was riveted of which they don't use e any more---we replace deteriorated rivets with high strength bolts---now the feds require every bridge to be inspected every 2 years--so you have to assume that fracture is under 2 years old--actually appears to be fairly fresh
also vehicle loads and the number of them have increased also since it was designed
