choose a water pump

I have the choice between an Airtex, a Gates, ACDelco, Cardone, and an ITM water pump. Which would you choose?

If it was for a must have in service, i would go with the brand name. If for a trailer queen, probably the cheapest. Jim

In today's reality they are all likely made by one or two sources in the "land of almost right" and your
choice doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

In past years, Airtex was the worst of all, across the board anything with their name was to be avoided.

If this is going on a GM product, I would pay the difference and get a new Delco.

Went through that on an 01 Silverado I used to have. Three different after market pumps failed within a year, different failure with each pump. Finally got a Delco. Even it said made in China, but it was the only one that held up.

Could have been a coincidence, but...

AC Delco or gates. The Airtex is just above junk quality. AC Delco is just a name anymore too. GM sold the name. So the parts can sometime be lower quality then the old Delco ones.

I like to go with the NEW ones and not a reman one. But it sure is a crap shoot on parts ! Price does not seem to equate to quality either. I have seen the exact same Dorman part sell for around 1/2 as much as local stores wanted for it.
