I blew a power steering hose in the Fiat built Oliver 1365. I got one alright, but he said he was glad he double checked the fittings before he made it. They looked like N.P.T. (pipe thread),but he said they turned out to be some British thread. He said they didn't have very many of them, but kept a few because Komatsu used them. He said that was the only other thing he knew of that used them. So I've got an American brand, made in Italy with British fittings that were used on Japanese excavators. lol

I've found British pipe thread on the Shibaura/Perkins/Caterpillar diesel in an ASV track loader, and Ferris lawn mower. And on my Hardi sprayer.

I run into British pipe all the time at work. The parker rep can get me most of the fittings I need. If it's a rush I buy adapters from McMaster carr.

About all the machines here at the shop are British pipe thread.

There is a big hydraulic shop just down the street, been there forever, the go-to place for the entire metromess.

But ask for British pipe thread hoses or fittings...

After getting past the "Idiot, you have no clue what you want!" stare, then you are informed they will have to order it.

I don't know why this is, I suspect there is just as much call for British as National now.

I can only imagine how many get the wrong thread. If I don't tell them, they will make it National every time!

When I worked in the R&D lab at Lincoln I would have to plumb up lines to water-cool fixtures. I used the quick-disconnect fittings that went on the water-cooled MIG robots. I used them with 1/4 NPT fittings. They worked but never seemed to fit quite right. One day I had to look up a spec for the fittings and went on the supplier's website with their part number and discovered they are BSP, 1 thread per inch different.

British standard pipe thread has been around a long, long time. As stated, one more thread per inch compared to National pipe and the threads are not tapered but straight........Ron
