Thinking I might need to get one what are some good models that will work good with 70 to 120 pto horsepower ?

Around here farm king 8' models are real common and can usually be picked up for around 1000. Simple reliable blowers.

There?s lots of snow in this area and the most popular blowers here run on bigger tractors are Normand and Provonost

I have had problems with wet heavy snow and warm temperatures in the spring of the year. It will plug the spout. I will usually wait until late evening or early morning when the temperture is cold and it will usually be fine. If its too wet to blow it will usually melt anyway. I have only had the snow too wet to blow once in the 15+ years I have had the blower.

We have had good luck with Farm King in MN winters. We have a 7ft and it does all we need for blowing snow away from our rows of hay bales, driveways, by buildings, etc. 70hp tractor runs it well.

Yes, but depending on how deep it is probably best on a Hydro tractor. This AC is a power shift, light snow it can be in 4,5, or 6th. Really heavy snow keeps it busy in first. The muffin on the dash is payment for clearing the parent's lane! LOL

Already ate the other one! Parents are in their 80s so I mow their two yards in summer too. Sister asked what I charge for mowing, I told her when done I ask for 1/2 of an ice cream bar, mom gives me a whole one so that means I'm overpaid!

For a great blower, Shulte is probably the best bet in your area. Pronovost, Normand, and Bervac are all really good, but built in Quebec so probably not common out west. Bervac built the older JD Frontier branded blowers, but they changed to a cheaper brand a few years ago.

You could also look for a Fair or Snowblast. You can literally put anything through them. Concrete, used cars, etc.

And soon there will be a bunch of complaints about the price of the blowers I listed. You get what you pay for.

The older JD ones where built by McKee. I have a 275 which is a 7 1/2 foot model. I have ran it on as low of HP tractors as 50 HP. You would need a slow reverse on an tractor under 100 HP on anything around 8 foot or so.

I sold Farm King/Allied/Buhler (same brand just name changes over the years) snow blowers they are a good farm duty blower. Red Devil brand is pretty good too. Truthfully as long as it is a twin auger, two stage unit in the 7-8 foot size they would work for you. Lots of brands out there. Most use simple/common driveline parts.

It is to bad your so far from Iowa. I have a pretty nice Front mount Eskline 8 foot snow blower. It would be a nice unit for your JD 4020. It is complete and setup for JD mounting.

I had a 6 1/2' JD blower on a 4010 gas tractor. We'd sometimes get 12", but not as wet as the nasty in your pic. The 4010 and blower both just struggled all the time and left less than ideal results, all while sucking down loads of fuel.

I finally got a plow truck and Western plow and will never go back to a blower! Then again, the truck and plow I use would be fairly useless in that thick, sticky mess.

What tractors do you have in mind for use? All 2wd or are any FWA? Do you have a strong front end loader? Could always mount a fully hydraulic plow on loader arms. Allows you to pile the snow high, roll it to either side, push straight ahead, etc. I like a blade cause it gets down to grass better than a blower. That means better traction for me.

A lot also depends on the size/shape of area you need cleared. Will a blower blow snow out of the way first pass? If not, plan on even harder going when you get to that snow each successive time.

I have a neighbor that stopped using blowers. Every time he had one, he'd suck up frozen cow pies or hit a gopher mound and cause damage to the blower.

JD Seller,

Would that Eskline be strong enough to be run on a 4640? How much are you asking for it?

JD Seller i wish I wasn?t so far away to I would like a front mounted blower that would be really nice to use . What is a front mounted blower like that bringing ?

This monster sold yesterday for about $2900 at the sale I went to in Rochelle, IL. I was watching it and thinking about buying it, but wasn't willing to go that high. Turns out they still make them. Fair is the brand name. youtube video of one eating a geo metro. It looked very heavy duty. Don't think your 4020 would do well on it.

That front mount would be the only way to go IMO All set for a 4020..perfect and the price will wear off but a sore neck from a rear mount will only get worse as years go by.

rockyridgefarm I don?t know if the 4020 and 3020
hooked together would run that thing . And I have
seen that video

David Someday I?ll have to make a trip and meet all the fine fellows on this Board start at case nuttys place and work my way east

For me moving snow with a blade or loader comes second only to picking stones. I started with a 7' blower on a 990 David Brown as a kid later worked with an 8'double auger on a 2-85 White. At one time I had a 6' on a 430 John Deere. With the 430 the first pass would be slow in 3'+ snow but when traction was compromised the slower travel speed would allow the power and load to equal out. We rarely have issue with wet snow but a chute that is polished stays clear better.
I currently use 6.5' on a 1020 John Deere which matches pretty well

rockyridgefarm: It is setup for 540 PTO. I have used it on a JD 4430 and it was fine. The JD 4640 with the 1000 PTO would be an issue. There is not room to use an adaptor with the gearbox mount.

I have been asking $2750 for it.

I have been asking $2750 for it.

I have not used it in several years. Since the boy have got a true end loader and we have been getting less snow, I just have not took the time to mount it.

I should just pick a tractor and mount it permanently.

Dieseltech That muffin is more than I get on some jobs but I love moving snow ❄️ I?ve thought the poweshift tractor would be the one to put it on but the 4020 has a lot more power if you ran in second station that would give you 2 5 foreward and 2nd reverse

Mr JD if you still have that blower in 2 or 3 years maybe we can talk a little ? I?ve got to get some stuff paid for and I?m really looking at a corn head for the 7700 for next fall depends on how things play out

Tech we get a big snow about every three years I don?t mind using a blade or my box but when two feet comes in two days it makes for 3 or 4 big days cleaning up 🧼 then again I like the cold and I never minded pickin rocks by hand either

I opposite of some. Had a plow on a truck, actually several trucks. I will never go back to a plow. Currently running a new Allied 8' blower. Deal was it was a left over from last year (2017). Double auger and hydraulic motor to rotate the spout. $4100. SIL and I was getting my old blower ready. Little crack here, little crack there. The more we looked the more we found wrong. All little stuff but there were problems. SIL said he'd split the cost of a decent used one (they live up the hill). Went in the house and started looking. First at the local jockey's web sites Then Titan and then RDO. RDO in Moorhead MN had it. SIL and daughter wanted to build up credit so they applied through JD credit.

Rick

Rick what tractor do you push that with ? A plow on
truck is absolutely worthless for what I do and the
heavy wet snow I don?t think it would ever work
anyway

I believe you are right on the older Deere branded ones. The Frontier line blowers were built by Bervac up till 20012-3? Then they switched to a light weight cheaper brand.

The depth of the fan is a good indicator of blower capacity. The Quebec built blowers are typically 10-12 inches deep.

My Mom has a 54? older Frontier on a 23hp sub compact. That thing will move snow almost as fast as the George White 7.5? blower I had on a 135hp tractor.

Lorenz makes a good heavy duty blower. They work well in all snow conditions. My father ran an 8' on a 4020 for many years and my brother still does. Hopefully you have a power shift which has a much slower reverse than the syncro. The syncro is over 3 mph in reverse, very fast for a blower.

Yup it was a Lucknow that we had on the White. It was old enough that the steel sheets were flame cut......before "Helm Welding" had a shear. The top choice for a blower in my book

We still use a Lorenz 8'on JD 4440 turning 160HP+. Excellent heavy duty blower in all conditions. Each snow is so different to move. Getting a slow reverse is usually the biggest problem. Quad range JD has held up and we ride the clutch a lot when blowing snow. We sold some front mount snow blowers for 4020, 4430,1086 etc. Without MFWD they were stuck a lot. Too much front weight. Fair is a high volume blower but takes a lot of HP. Lorenz dealer but I could sell Snowmachines, Fair , McKee. Most of the blower brands will do a decent job without a lot of maintenance.
