A little work on my Super C

I noticed there was a mouse nest or some rodent nest in the front grill of my Super C by the radiator. I took off the front grill and removed the nest, which was mainly grass and hay by the looks of it.

I just wanted to share a couple photos. I am going to be doing a lot of maintanence and cleanup on my tractor and I will be sure to post pictures.

That is likely a replacement radiator. The original was black but had red overspray on it.. Replacement is good because it is not 60+ years old. We have 15
inches of snow on the ground where are you? Jim

I found a mouse nest under the gas tank and a second one inside the clutch housing, which was made
from nylon carpet. Some had wrapped the drive shaft but not all. Check everything carefully. You will be
glad you did.

Congrats on the tractor! Those dang varmints will try to get into everything. I would suggest, by looking at your tools, that you invest in some wrenches and sockets. An adjustable wrench and a pair of pliers come in real handy when that's all you have but when you start wrenching on a lot of tractors you'll need a better selection. Even an el cheapo socket set from Harbor Freight would help when you need to get in some tighter quarters that the adjustable wrench or pliers won't reach. I wish you the best on your project!

Better crawl under it and check inside the clutch bell housing for mouse nests, if there is no cover plate over the access port on the bottom.

MF#1, my tools do look pretty lacking in the picture I posted, but I actually do have a fairly extensive set of sockets and wrenches, as well as numerous pliers and a couple torque wrenches.

I just grabbed a couple things to get the grill off, turns off I needed a 9/16 socket, which I figured out after trying a 1/2, 5/8, and pretty much any size close to 9/16 except the one I needed. The size you need always seems to be the last you try.

Thanks for the recomendation though, I am sure there will be some special tools I will need to get.

John
What I need to do is get organized, most of my tools are just laying around my workshop.

Never mind, I looked at your pic again. If the ratchet on the hood had been a snake it would have bit me :-(
Maybe I need an eye exam?

I think I read in an earlier post that you planned on repainting the tractor? It looks pretty good to me in your photos! Unless you want it shiny showroom
new looking, IMO if you do that you would be afraid to use the tractor because you would scratch the paint.

I do plan on repainting it. The paint job does not look terrible right now, but it is peeling pretty bad on the hood, and there are spots where you can tell the last person to paint it neglected to paint. Mainly, though, I want to repaint it as part of my project, I really want this tractor to be a fun project for me where I try to restore it mechanically and visually back to the way it was when it was purchased in 1952. Since my mechanical skills are limited as of now, there are some mechanical issues I will not delve into, but I will try to do as much as I can.

Be sure to remove the inspection plate from the bottom of the clutch housing. That is a favorite place for mouse nests. Hard to clean out. I've had to clean out my 200 Farmall three times over the years. Finally covered the holes in the torque tube.
