fenders for 52 G john deere

What is the proper style of fender for a 52 G or is there only one style ..Ive been told there were more than one and one is called a clam shell

There were 2 kinds. Depends on the serial number break as to which is correct but both will fit.

According to the G parts manual PC 369. The fender that covered the top of the tire was used up to serial number G 41667. The clam shell fender was used starting with serial number G 41668.

I would just as soon have NO fenders as the clamb shell type. If I have a fender I want it to be something that is a safty thing and the clamb shell is not. Only good place for the clamb shell is scrap yard. Farmall made the same misteak when they went from the F20 style to the H-M style.

Tell that to the guy whose tractor tire fell into a fox den or ground hog hole and threw him sideways into a bare tire before he could even know what happened to him. Clam shells sit high enough to keep you out of tire and also do not plug with mud and corn stalks like the ole JD full coverage did.

They DO NOT sit high enough to do any good and the full coverage NEVER pluged with mud or corn stalks.. That being thrown onto the tire is why I always had full coverage on. Years ago a person that I knew. Very distant family member and later farmed his place had a AC WC with the flat top fenders and that flat top saved him from the turning tire when a rock caused him to get thrown off the seat and was hanging across the spinning tire so I do know what that flat top can do and what the clamb shell cannot do and that is hold you off the tire as the top of the clamb shell is usually lower than the top of the tire. Even if it would be high enough to catch part of your body then your arms would still be caught by that tire. I will stick to my statement those clamb shells are bad news.
