Short trip outside the kingdom

Went down to Hartwell Ne
yesterday to get an engine for
my 400. Got a 301d out of a
combine, that is the same
engine that is in the 830
tractor.

This will be a direct bolt in and eliminate the issues with the block and finding obsolete sleeves and pistons for the original engine. I got it from a man named Bill Talbert, a real nice man. We had a great visit. He also has a nice collection of case stuff, wish I could have spent more time there checking it out, but I was in a hurry to get home. The trip was right at 1200 miles round trip.

I left the kingdom about 5am yesterday, spent an hour or so at Bill's place and took a break for a couple hours in Des Moines, and got home about 4am this morning. I may take a nap or two today. Lol

Looong day trip lol. I envy you being able to buy a combine engine for your tractor. I need one for a 3020 deere and as far as I can determine the engine in a 3020 was only used in a 3020. They are a hard item to find. 20+ years ago I needed a crank for a 3020. This was before I used the internet much. One guy told me not to waste my time hunting one. That is when I found Billy Mitchell in Clarksdale ,Miss. He said son, how many do you need? He is gone and I lost a tremendous parts source. Didn't mean to ramble. I hope you have good luck with your new engine.

Jon: I like the older cases and enjoy following your progress. Sometimes this route can be easier and cheaper than doing a rebuild.

Looks like you may have crossed paths with my daughter. They live in beemer and went down to Columbus for a event. Said it was 35 mph trip at best most of the time in the storm.
