Clutch pedal height ?

I have a 1964 super dexta and this is 1st tractor I've ever had with a clutch setup like this but what I'm wondering is that normal for it to be up so high seems like it's a pain to lift my leg up high enough for that everytime.

Your tractor has a "Live" PTO, clutch half down stops forward movement, clutch fully down
stops Power Take Off shaft and hydraulics. If you look at the clevis where the linkage
goes into the clutch housing you will find it has two positions, yours is in the rear most
one. Move it into the front position.You only need it in the rear position when using PTO
driven implements.
 
there is also a free play bolt down by the linkage that will take all that free play out, I leave about a 1/2 of play
 
My LIVE PTO 3000 is adjusted per the manual and is uncomfortably high but you get used to it. Another thing on comfort is to raise your seat. I like to
maximize the range of movement on my tractor seats and adjust them for about mid position with me sitting in the seat. That works out fine with my
pedal height. Seats are the hundred dollar, commonly available, universal seats with compression adjustment on the top, rear of the seat.
 
after thinking back my bolt was missing out of the casting boss where the linkage goes into the case , I think it was just a 1/4 bolt and lock nut , maybe metric you should see a boss right at the lever that goes into case
 
That is the normal height for any tractor Dexta, any Ford , possibly and Ferguson with a live PTO that you control operation with your foot by pushing peddel down halfway to stop tractor but not PTO to keep machine operating. Think a combine on pto operation, you want the machine to clean out when you stop, not with it setting full of grain so you have to start it up under load and then you can start it back up without being under load without you having to back up a couple of feet with machine stoped so you can have machine operating at full speed when it hits the crop. They were developed orignaly for machines like the combine, baler or corn picker as that clutch setup will let you stop tractror forward movement to let machine clean out a potential plug. Then some companys came out with the independant PTO, not to be confused with live PTO as a lot do because you have to operate 2 controls with those to do the job with just the foot pedal on like you have. On your setup if you have a rotary mower on and want to keep it running while you back into corners and the like thenthe halfway down is a very big help as the other option was when you pushed the clutch down everything stoped but that spinning mower would want to push the tractor into the fence, building or creek if you did not have an over run coupler in the PTO drive line. If you set the clutch peddel in lower position you will NOT have any PTO avaible and that position is for like working ground with a plow that has no need for a PTO. I had the independant PTO and wished it would have been the live with 2 stage clutch that you have. With what you have if you come up on a baby animal laying in grass you are mowing just ready to hit it and you janb the clutch all the way down everything will stop so as to not cut up that animal. Now the independant you have to not only hit that clutch pedal but also grab the pto lever to stop and doing that simultainious is hard to do. So if you are never going to us a mower on the tractor go ahead and put clutch in low positiom but if you will ever use a mower or like PTO operated machine KEEP that pedle in the high position so you are used to it and that you DO NOT when you have to stop with that PTO machine you DO NOT get your foot hooked under the pedal and cannot stop at all. If you are used to having to just lift your foot a low distance and when you have to lift it in a panic situation you are lible to forget you have to lift the foot that high and instead of making that panic stop you keep going into the creek or fence or your car.
 
I have one of those adjustable seats like you are talking it's all the way back and up guess being a high pedal and me 6'6" just gonna have to get use to it cause I plan on using it just to mow

Someone actually built a tractor like that and thought hey it?s ok for a guy to have lift his foot 2 feet in the air every time he wants to push the clutch in for 14 hours a day
 
Got a 64 4000, you can see the clutch pedal is the same as yours.

Used a piece of 3/8 x 4" to scoot the seat back, usually use 1/2" but I didn't have any on hand.

I'm not your height, but I'm 6'3" and weigh more than I care to admit. This helped a lot.

I did lose the parking brake rods when this got done, they were in the way, haven't figured out a fix for it yet.

This was my Grandpa's tractor, he did everything with it...hay and crops. Pretty much has the carryall on the
back now, plows and discs the garden in the spring.

Hope this helps...those old Fords weren't made for tall guys.

More like 10" instead of 6". And I wish my 4000 & 5000 Fords had that instead of that hard to control independant lever. I got into problems with that indepandant style on my 4000 with the combine so I went back to the John Deere A without any live or indepandant PTO, less trouble. And I have driven a 3020 John Deere and it was the WORST handling tractor I ever drove With the 2010 and 2020 close behind. I would not wish a 2010-2020-3010-3020-4010-4020 on my worst enemy.
