Paint is on, but....

Finished painting the 504 Farmall the other day. Re-assembled and ready for the white trim. Not real happy with the paint, it just doesn't have that glossy shine. I should have added a hardener or bought paint from the dealer rather than TSC. Oh well, for sale sign goes on next week.

i don't think the hardener has any thing to do with paint shine. its how the paint is applied is more my theory . not claiming to be a paint specialist but that's what i have seen and experienced. you can have two people take a can of paint and paint the exact same thing. one will look very professional looking and the next one will look dull with no shine. its all in the technique and experience.

Spray a coat or 2 of clear coat on it. It will pop. I've done it many times over paint not made to be cleared over. Never had a problem.

I buy tractors and implements and parts from the tractor dealer. I buy my paint from the paint jobber.

I had one of those last year with factory wide front. Needed lots of work, more than I wanted to do. Your paint better than what I would do, but that clearcoat, even from a spray can would help.

i used tsc paint on my first farmall, yep, that's what ya get. i'd second the clearcoat to get shine, but if you're selling i'd skip it, cuz it sure is pricey....

The paint on Deere I did last month looked pretty good. I used Deere low VOC paint and their thinner. Funny part is, any spot I painted with the brush....those hard to get areas behind linkages and hoses etc. looks better than the sprayed on. I think there may be a compatability issue with that thinner and the generic paint. Maybe a coat of wax will help a bit.

I just bought the tractor for a winter project....something to keep me active
instead of getting fatter and lazier! I already have 2 older tractors, and I would
be hard pressed to find work for this one. Besides, I have no attachment to it
whatsoever, it just came along at the right time. Good tractor, has independent
pto, T/A and three pairs of remote outlets. Shows 1200 hours on the tach.

best guess is the final coat was put on too dry. lastcoatneeds to be a real wet coat to get a nice shine.

Yea, I am afraid of runs since I don't have a lot of heat in the shed, and tend to leave it too long after it flashes before putting on another coat. Do you think a bit of car wax would help applied in a week or so?
Ben

You can get a gloss with tsc paint. Like glennster said, put the last coat on wet. I painted this chipper with tsc. I don't remember if it had hardner or not. The problem with tsc paint is that it wont keep a gloss. Chipper is kind of a chalky orange now.

its too soon to wax. the solvents need to flash off. see if you can get some heat on it for a while. wait 30 days and try a cleaner wax.

What do you mean it turns pink ? I painted my 450 7 years ago with TSC paint and it has yet to turn pink. This was taken just over a year ago.

Seven years ago TSC still sold BPS paint. Their Magic paint is not nearly as good. (But its cheaper.)

I use CNH 2150 rough red from the dealer price is inline it always turns out GOOD...

Hardner is notcher problem stay at it you will get it right...

It's easier said than done but the paint has the most shine just before it runs but I don't know where the pink came from. Picture of my Super M with IH dealer paint and hardener and my little Wheel Horse with Farm/Fleet paint and hardener.

It takes three coats to get the best look from the paint. How many coats did you apply?

You?re righ, looks just awful, better sell it to me cheap, then you won?t have to look at it any longer, lol. I would love to have that tractor with a set of mounted corn scufflers. With the TA you could creep along at the ideal speed on the first pass, and really make the dirt fly on the last

That's what I was going to recommend. Use clear with a two part mix. It will look so much better. Two to three coats. Then if you wanted to really make it shine sand and buff. Stan
