my Sister in law is from near London ON. It was kind of a pain for them to get married, get proper paperwork ect ect. and still is every so many years.

i often tease her (VERY JOKINGLY) that it would have been easier if she had come across the other boarder.

I don't get it. You mean the paperwork for a marriage can expire rendering it null and void? We need that here!

My wonderful daughter-in-law also faced major hassles when she came to the U.S. from England to marry my son several years ago. She was a mid-level banking executive with an absolutely clean record in the UK, but had to jump through many hoops to gain the right to stay in the U.S. She was terrified she would be denied legal status for not dotting the I's and crossing the T's 100% correctly. I freely admit her experience has made me quite negative toward someone from another country who gets to be in the U.S. just because he/she waded across a river in an unpatrolled place. But at least my DIL gets to live without constantly looking over her shoulder.

funny that this is posted now, last week i was in the barber shop and overheard a lady saying usa was only country that didn't have a wall, she went on to say "you should see the wall that is around canada" now i see what she was talking about........LOL

I agree with you Rossow.

Friend of mine met a fella in England, he came over and they got married. He visited here a time or two.

When he was coming over for good she was over in England, they packed and ended up getting bumped and on different flights coming to the USA. Oh yea, there was a friend snow storm in England that day, he got messed up at the airport on flights and delayed.

He had a visa to be in the USA but much of his stuff was in her bags. I?m short on the details, but customs did not think his luggage fit his visa, he didn?t have the right amount of money, clothing, whatever to fit staying here for many months.

And so he was flown back to England. Deported.

He has a typical English temper, nice guy but swears like a sailor and feisty when provoked.

The ?welcome home? party we had, delayed by 2 days, for him was kinda humorous! Maybe not for him.....

I?m all for immigration but we need it to be proper, accounted for, not create the slave labor force we get with the southern border situation. That is bad for them and us. Congress needs to get off its rear and create a better and bigger and legal program. President Bush had something I thought was workable and a vast improvement years ago, Congress buried their heads in the sand.

Very sad.

When I was in the Army, my wife and I lived off post in Newfoundland. She was a US citizen , same as I am. When our son was born there, I had to file a return of birth to the capital over at St. Johns Newfoundland to obtain his citizenship. He was not automatically a U.S. citizen. They said Newfoundland was one of only a couple countries in the world that a child born to U.S. citizens while in the U.S. military was not automatically a citizen.

Anyway, several years ago he wanted a passport to go on a trip to Europe. What a hassle but he got her done. Then, typical of him, he let the passport expire so now it is after 9-11. He wanted a passport again to go to Canada and just in case to go other foreign countries. He had a hllll of a time. I was digging up all the records I had left and he had to go to St. Paul and appear in person to get her done.

I do not, and never had a passport so I cannot even go into Canada. Last time I renewed my drivers license, I asked about getting what they call a enhanced drivers license which would allow me to go into Canada. Well, they don't issue them locally, have to go to St. Cloud.

Just seems they make it too darn convenient for some one to sneak in whereas, a citizen has to jump through hoops. Make it so they can get a visa, green card, work permit or what ever and have a definite expiration date so they have check in, or , you are gone, period. Stupid is what it is. Congress has been fooling around over thirty years now. Get her done.

We have a friend that married a Canuck, she had to pay for a medical exam before she could go on the Canadian health care system. They live in Toronto, like it there, and like their health care....

My wife was born in Canada, her parents were US citizens, but the best and closest hospital is in Canada. When she turned 18 she had to decide which country she wanted to be a citizen of, chose US, now she could have dual citizenship. We have passports, got them easily many years ago, travel back and forth to Canada frequently.

no not the marriage paperwork WOW would that create chaos and confusion!!. some i suppose would take advantage of that situation ;)

whatever documentation she needs to stay here has to be updated every 7 years or so and costs several hundred $$$ each time.

With lots of snow and -40 wind chills, it pretty much looks like that around the Edmonton region.

(quoted from post at 12:07:25 02/15/19) That looks like Ontario's highway 21 up by Centash's place lol !
21 is closed at the moment due to lack of visibility .
I have a suspicion that Centash is a neighbour . Wife is driving through Exeter tomorrow .

My late Uncle was a senior Locomotive Engineer for several years on a Canadian Rail line......no problem with winter aliens sneaking into Canada:

In the 1960's a group was protesting. They had tents, automobiles, etc, etc,on the rails. As he approached,he gave several blasts of the horn...throttle was increased to notch 8!
