-4 here this morning.
I always look at the cold in February as similar to the heat in August - same number of days past the solstice.
By the end of August it is noticeable that the temps have begun to moderate. Same with February.
Just a couple more weeks of this real cold stuff.
Sure, we'll get snow and cold in the coming 8 weeks or so but the sun is stronger now and things will melt a little around the edges.
We have already gained 1 hr and 43 mins of daylight since the darkest day in December.
Winter is on the wane boys.
Take cheer.

I think over half the battle with winter is the darkness. There is something dissatisfying about it getting dark before I even eat an early dinner.

Most daylight since October 25. News says El-Nino is coming. We just might beat this global warning.

Thanks for the pleasant thoughts. My mood always improves about now. Sure, it's our coldest month, but it's also the shortest month.

Stay warm,

That's why we like to head south the first of Dec.! When the days start getting so short it's depressing, and the sky is
usually gray for all of Dec. But we are ready to head home in 3 weeks!

I really do not mind having to shovel snow every other day or so. I just wish we could have 70 degrees and bright sunshine while I'm doing it.

This winter has worn on long enough. Hard to dream of planting and green when they have 2 more storms lined up for us.

I can take 2 out of three: bitter cold, snow, wind. But we have been on a cycle of all three repeating themselves, it gets to be a drag.

After a summer that had no sun and endless rains, there hasn?t been much to enjoy for a while.

It was sunny here yesterday, and warm enough to melt a little around the edges. I spent the whole day outside, chopping ice, cleaning up a little snow, and doing a whole bunch of stuff outside that really didn't need to be done right away just to stay out in the sun. Some days you just got to do what you need to do to keep your sanity!

I've tossed in the towel for the day. It was 45 yesterday and the manure loosened up in the feedlots. I had the tractor plugged in and was gonna haul it out today, but that cold wind is just too much. It's supposed to be sunny, calm and mid 20s tomorrow. Only problem is,it's supposed to drop back to 10 tonight and I don't know how bad it will refreeze by then, but if I get loaded up and something breaks today,I'm just not up for fixing it in this weather. I'll take my chances.

It was minus 8F at 7 a.m. in south-central Minnesota this morning. But the sun dogs that accompanied the sunrise were magnificent! Forecast is for another 5 inches of snow this weekend, adding to what has already fallen in what is shaping up to be the snowiest February ever in MN. But when the sun shines and the wind is calm you can feel some warmth returning. I'm disappointed that the occasional 40-degree day or two or three in February have not happened this year, but maybe there's still time.
