Cat beside 4800 Volts

I was sort of expecting a scene similar to National Lampoons Christmas Vacation where the cat chewed the Christmas tree wiring under the chair.
Hydro One came along a couple of hours later as we seen truck tracks and work boot tracks around the base of the pole .
They said it is about 50/50 odds of the situation working out in the cat’s favour.

(quoted from post at 23:50:22 02/10/19) The center phase looks a lot higher than than the cross arm with enough room for the cat to go under it.
here on earth do they use 4800v? Around here, even rural, 7200v is on the low side of the norm of 14, 500?

At such high voltages and considering in a human only 0.050 amps can disrupt their heart, there could "possibly" be enough voltage and resultant current flow from any phase to that wooden pole to kill the cat dead if he gets across the same, but that's dependent on the poles moisture and materials (IE its conductivity). I'm assuming a grounded Y HV primary distribution scheme.

There's high voltage across those top three phase to phase wires but their separation distance would make it hard for the cat to get line to line voltage.

At one facility I designed for the HV Primary distribution was 12,470 Y 7200 Volt Three Phase Four Wire.

To receive a shock the cat needs to be across high voltage IE NOT just one live phase, and such exists

Line to Line,,,,,,,,,,Line to Neutral,,,,,,,,,,,,Line to earth ground assuming that's an earth grounded Y system

Hope this helps

4800 line to neutral, 8.3Kv line to line .

The wires are far enough apart I doubt if the cat would ever be hurt. You see birds sitting on the poles and wires all the time. As long as he just touches one wire at a time and not grounded it should be alright.

The power company does demonstrations at the county fair. One of the demos involves grounding out a high voltage line with a 2x4, with a flash and a bang as the line fuses blow, with the message that wood does not protect you from high voltage, so when you see a down line, don't touch it.

All that cat has to do is brush that line and there will be a flash, and a bang, and the smell of burning fur.

I had a neighbor once with 5 cats that ran loose. Had something like that been available at the time, I would have liked to
do some experimenting with the one-wire, two-wire and three-wire hypothesis. And I would have cared less as long as one of
the experiments worked. Well, better up there than at a pet-friendly hotel. If that confuses you, visit Tractor Tales.

Crazy, I could not make any sense of this except to guess that you wouldn't mind seeing one of your neighbor's cats electrocuted. I think, if this is the case, that the neighbor bears responsibility for his errant kitties. This is somewhat akin to the man discovering his wife is cheating--and immediately wants to shoot the other man.

Is that a common voltage in CA?

Here it is 4160, 12.5, 13.2 or 13.8 all Y now.

Single phase power on the road in front of my place is 7200V. Nearest 3 phase is 5/8 of a mile east. Not sure what that is running.

Ha , shoot the woman first she can run faster with her dress up than the man can with his pants down . I know that was mean but it was funny
