Allis Chalmers Baler

Is an Allis Chalmers 2 string baler worth taking for free? I don't know the model yet. It looks like a 303. It has been outside in CA weather for a few years. How muc work and
how big a project is this? What is the worse I might be looking at?

There are collectors for AC implements out there. For free it would be worth taking and seeing what somebody might offer on it.

I used a 303 AC baler for a couple of years. Not high capacity, but made decent bales. Would be worth taking home for free, because it will get you a few bucks for scrap (and parts) if you can't get it to work.

I bought one for 150.00, guy said it wouldn't tie reliably. Ran a few bales through it and sure enough it wouldn't. Found all the hay dog springs were broken and no new ones out there. Made some from Freeman pick-up tines which I think were 9.00/each. Worked great after that and sold it for 1500.00. It'll make 50# bales for you.

Friend had a 303nand liked it fine. This coming from a guy that put many thousands of bales thru a McCormick #45, couldn't be anything much worse.

I've had a 303 for several years and several hundred bales. Never had a problem with it. Tie mechanism is the same as New Holland of same err. Once you get it set properly, it will stay there and make some nice bales. Definitely worth dragging home.

I'd buck it up against any baler of that time period.

If you can't get it to work remove the needles and sell the pair for $200 and scrap the baler for $75 in metal.
