RV antifreeze

My "Splash" brand gallon jugs of RV antifreeze that state its good to -75 were frozen solid on my shelf in the shop when it got to -22 last week..
What could have gone wrong?

Straight anti freeze freezes at lower temps than the rating, well below. Needs mixed with water, though I don't know how that works.

omeone fibbed?
Like teenagers and vodka, someone took part of antifreeze and replaced it with water?

He's not talking about engine anti freeze. RV anti freeze is used undiluted. Says that on the jug I have in
bold capital print.

Urban folk tale. The truth is: diluted anti-freeze cools the engine better than undiluted anti-freeze.

But this isn't a discussion about engine anti-freeze.

The jug doesn't say it wont freeze. It says you pipes wont burst at -75.

Auto anti freeze can do the same thing. 50/50 mix will freeze around -40, but it can get quite a bit colder before the block splits. Just don't try to start an engine that has slush in it.

Found this on the manufacturer's web site:

"Because the stored system is not in use, preventing ice crystals is not necessary, and to do so would require the use of a more expensive product with a higher PG content. As an example, the -50?F antifreeze has a freeze point of +20?F while the -100?F antifreeze has a freeze point of about-20?F."

I don't know if it is the same for RV antifreeze, but for regular ethylene glycol (the green stuff), it needs to be mixed with water to keep from freezing.

Put simply, the water is the antifreeze for the antifreeze. Somewhere around a 70% mixture of antifreeze to water is the lowest freezing point.

If RV antifreeze behaves the same way, it needs to be mixed with water. The reason I could see to use it straight is that it is assumed that there is already water in the pipes that you are trying to protect.

It got to -22 here last week. I have 5 jugs sitting in the machine shed, had to move them to get to some of my honey bee stuff. They were not froze up. I got it at Menards.
