You need to use these battery cable ends this makes them get a good connection as possible .

I turn the supplied "cover" upside down so the V goes down into
the cable when I'm forced to use them. Normally I avoid that type.

I?ve tried that too and then they just bend kinda flat. I?ve gone
back to the solid ones and solder them on but SV?s idea would
work good too.

Combine them Phillip? Turn it upside down AND use the washers?
I'm still with you on using pre-formed or solder on ends, but you
use what you have to when you have to get it done.

Royse I like the crimp or solder on ends the best to
but this style can be used in this way to make a
pretty decent connection you can also put a washer
on the bottom and then you can really mash it tight
if you want .

Yup, been there when in a rush,, or broke. A trick I learned here on YT is copper never sieze. Best stuff I have ever used for protecting battery terminals. When we bought our current place 4 years ago I had to put one of those clamp on ends on my Kubota as I had no other choice. Dipped the end in never seize and its stiil working great 4 years later, the new cable from Kubota $$$$$ still in the box.

When i used those bolt on terminals i would take the copper sodering iron that you heat up with a heat source and solder the cable also after clamping it. Worked good.

I have used many of the replacement ends with no problem. And any that I have seen you could NOT put those washers on. If I would try those washers I would have nothing but problems. And soldering, forget it, was never able to get solder to stick on anything, just beads kept falling off.

I think they should be illegal to sell,, I won't let a tractor leave the shop with one of these on it...

I gotta agree. I know the last time I was in Germany those were sold as a temp emergency repair only and a vehicle would fail inspection with them on in it's annual safety inspection.

I just put a new cable on.

Leroy I use them quite a lot and never had much problems with them by using the washer it keeps them from working loose I have never seen one you couldn?t put washers on

I've used them quite often also, and never really had any problems. Never quite understood what all the fuss was about. The washers are a good idea. I'll have to try that.

One of these fooled me on my 555C backhoe, I replaced the battery, existing was of questionable age, but when I load tested it, was fine. Back up now. The fasteners on it were not 7/16" or 10MM, took awhile to clamp down properly. Not a big fan of them, but rarely had trouble with them if I wire brushed the cable strands and the cable end where it clamps and sprayed the protectant on it.

Rich you have to squeeze the washers together
with a pair of water pump pliers while you get them
snug and then the washers will stay in place while
you tighten up the nuts inch or 1 1/4 bolt work best

I saw them years ago and still haven't tried them. Looks like with some bear grease in them they would work great

Olliejunkie The tractor doctor in green magazine did
an article on that style you posted they?re supposed
to be the best thing since well they?re supposed to
be good I hate sliced bread so I didn?t want to say
bread

oldtanker The local cnh dealer used to make the
best battery cables in the world I though he would
cut the cable then stick one of those preformed
ends on slide some heat shrink on stick the end in
end hydraulic hose machine and squeeze it tight
then heat up that shrink tubing and it made a nice
cable the other day when I went in they have quit
selling battery cable stuff altogether so I don?t know
what happened

Tim They can be a source of problems that?s why I started doing it this way so you can make sure it?s grttimg the best possible connection

(quoted from post at 00:48:11 02/03/19) Has anyone tried these?

I have used these several times they do hold and work well, my only complaint was that it can be difficult to use if the cable has to take an abrupt turn near the terminal. They take a little more space. I also have used the ring style they don't bend well, found out the hard way.
