Over 60 inches of snow expected

Not here, the Tug Hill area is north of us, but There are several other YTer's who do live in that area, such as Don Lehman, and Tim V.
They DO have the equipment to deal with storms like that and they will survive. It will turn into a boom to their snowmobile and winter sports industry, in weeks to come. If it does come to be, believe me Al Roker and other news notables will have to make a trip there, just to increase their TV ratings.

Been snowing off and on all day here, and another foot or so due tonight, though I doubt if we'll see 5 feet total out of this storm. I'm less than a dozen miles off Tug Hill and about twice that from Barnes Corners, but we usually don't get quite as much as they do. Still, we'll probably end up with a couple feet, but that's hardly out of the ordinary for winter in northern NY. As ACG said, most everyone has shovels (not to mention larger equipment) and knows how to use them--the local news ran a quick spot on an old family friend tonight--79 years old and out shoveling with the same shovel he'd repaired 10 years ago. Just hope he doesn't get 5 feet tonight--he'll need a snorkel in addition to his shovel, as he's not over 5 feet himself.

Ya once the big time weather tellers show up its big ratings... Our fearless leader governer was in town today here in WNY we are under state of emergency with driving bands in Erie and Genesee counties and most townships. Blizzard conditions and wind chills into -35/40deg mark, could get up to 18" of snow by tomorrow. Nothing we have not delt with before the high winds and blowing snow just make it a little more difficult. I just came in from plowing the driveway again and it was not nice outside.!!

Not much doing here in the Finger Lakes area other than some wind and cold. A friend from college probably will get 3.5-4 feet of snow off of Lake Erie just a little south of Buffalo when it is all done.

LOL yea it's kinda funny. You guys are used to getting snows like that so they ain't no big deal. WE get in the -25 to -30 at least a day or 2 every year. -34 last night. No big deal. Yea this year they shut schools down but we bundle up and do what needs done. Let Chicago or NYC get -30 and or 5' of snow and the news folks would have us believing that the world is coming to an end.

I know everyone has to live some where but living some where were there's that much snow in the winter, fires in the summer, hurricanes and floods in the springs just isn't for me. Well my friend all I can say is be careful up there in new York.

We get some weather up here that can be as nasty as anywhere ..... in nearby Edmonton in the history of Edmonton Public Schools, there has never been a single school ever closed due to weather. Maybe if the water froze up and there was a flood or something, but never generally because of weather. That's just shy of 140 years ...... OK, a city system but things weren't always like they are now with mom and dad driving kids to school in their Volvo SUV's. In 1880, things were pretty primitive.

That might explain the fast moving low flying helicopter that went over the house last evening. The Monarch was headed back to the state house for a evening cocktail.

Well, there is not much chance of a flood when you live on top of a hill. Northern NY is not known for hurricanes or tornadoes either. As for forest fires there is little threat either. All you need is an old plow truck and snowmobile and you will fit rite in.
