Loader Joystick?

Looking to upgrade my loader controls from running off the tractor's remotes to a double spool, open center joystick.

Are they all about the same or is there one brand that stands out above the others?

Years ago I ran a tractor with that Joystick. It was just the oposite of Joy as I hated the operation. I would never have one on a loader. Could never get the loader to do what I wanted it to do.

Just a matter of preference I suppose. I don't have a joystick on mine, but have used them in the past and found it to be very easy to get along with. Can't help with brands, though I think anything will be an improvement over using the remote levers. Seems like that would be awkward.

I need to replace the joystick on our orphan compact. Are they all pretty much alike
or may they be a lot different? It has worn so that the operation is sloppy and not
precise. Where do I look for a replacement?

Not sure where you are. But here in frozen Manitoba I go to princesses auto. Cheap and work
great. Mine lasted as long as I had the tractor. I have to buy another as the Belarus doesn?t have
one and I hate loaders without. How anyone can like 2 leavers after using 1 I will never know.
Some people have mounted them with the stick horizontally and that sucks. It must be mounted
straight up for me or slightly tilltad back.

Biggest difference is whether it is direct mounted and the levers have small linkage right to the spool or remote mounted and use cables to move the spools. Lot has to do with where you want to mount the valve and how the plumbing works out. I sell and mount both and probably over all less trouble with the direct mount but the newer cable units are nice also. Be aware you may need a valve with power beyond depending on how your loader is set up.

I picked up a "Brand" joystick from Surplus center for $289. They have another one that is $100 cheaper. It went on a Kubota
B7500 that used to have a "Husco" stick that was screwed up from day one. I got the tractor from a relative and had no warranty
recourse for me. It is open center and you might need the available additional valve for the flow through operation.

I have run both depends on what you get used to. Our current loader has a joy stick. Our old Cat track loader had 2 levers one for each valve. The lift lever had a detent to hold it in the lift or drop position that worked good for leveling dirt. This was in the late 70's to early 80's. With 50 GPM and 2000 PSI, I thought I was in heaven for loader lift and movement.

I had 2 levers on my old case 530 and now on my Cat 416 I have 1
lever joy with another close for 4 in 1. I like it. Ed Will

You get sow you operate both withsame hand at same time. The one I was trying to use was a Deere of about 1989 or close. Just could not get any control. Was not mine but the school I was attending at that time.

I think I have it whipped as far as [b:296a1adaa0]how[/b:296a1adaa0] to install. What I'm looking for now is [b:296a1adaa0]what brand[/b:296a1adaa0] to install.

The two names that pop up the most seem to be Cross and Prince.

If this is a Ford vs. Chevy debate, then best to go with what the local dealer has who can help install and service it. Or if there is a clear best built, best to operate, most reliable, etc, then I'd go with that.

As for what I have now, there is nothing on the tractor but hoses that run from the tractor's remotes to the loader cylinders. Previous owner must have used this 99% of the time with a bale spear. Tractor remotes OK for that.....but very awkward to use with a bucket on the loader. Worse, remotes are right and left of the seat, so not a one handed operation. Very awkward.

I got one from surpluscenter.com. It's a Brand, 2 spool that'll flow 10 GPM, with regen on the first spool and float on the second. I like it much better than the 2, Prince single spool valves that were on it. Works great for me. Hope this helps. Mark
