Im trying to id this part that goes on the limit switch for the curtain in my holding area. It looks like a tranistor but it only has two legs not three legs like a transistor has. The cord gor stuck when the curtain was raising and pulled the transistors?? legs apart!! the one in the pic is the good one.

likely a diode. Take one lead off of the connection and see if it reads 0 or very few ohms in one direction, and open or very many in the other. If so it looks like about 10 amp rating. If numbers, google it. Jim

It appears to be a diode in a TO-220-2 package. A little research shows that this package is most commonly used for Schottky diodes, which are very fast switching diodes.

My guess is the purpose of the device is to suppress inductive kickback from the motor when the limit switch is turned off. Without a diode, the limit switch would arc every time it opened and quickly fail.

yes it is a diode, I tested it with the ohm meter and it only had continuity one way. This looks like a good replacement. Thanks for the help from every one who responded!! https://www.ebay.com/p/Mur1510-15a-15-Amp-100v-Power-Diode-Rectifier-10/1139715552
