Magnetic heater

My Massey 1635 gelled up today. It had conditioner in it, got it going with Power Service 911. But I need a better plan fast since it will be -26 on Wednesday. Anyone use one of those magnetic heaters on a diesel fuel tank? I see those peel and stick heaters for tanks, but a magnet would be fast and easier.

You need more additive.
I always double dose when this cold, in fact Power Service recommends double dose when using Bio blends.
Keep filters replaced also.

Yes I have a magnetic heater I bought years ago fron=m CARQUEST.
Used it a couple times on the oil pan of the Case 580 as it has no block heater.
Seemed to work Ok.

You need a different fuel treatment. That being said for now just get some Kerosene and mix it in the tank. I would used 30-40% with the cold we are having. You will also need to change the fuel filters. My experience has been that once they are plugged with gelled fuel they are done.

As far as the magnetic heaters. They usually are only 200-300 watts. That does not heat much when it is below zero. Also throw a blanket over the entire motor to help hold heat in will help get it started.

Back in the day when we wintered cows here and had to feed everyday we would put a magnet heater on the fuel tank and one on the fuel filters if works really good. Also power service or Howe?s works but at 30 below it takes a lot more to get the job done it won?t hurt anything to dump the whole bottle in a 30 or 40 gallon tank

Thanks guys. After looking around the tank to see where I could put the heater, it became apparent what I thought was the metal tank is the heat shield. Tank is plastic. Should have thought of that first. So I'll dump some kero in it and see how it works. Thanks

Big blanket over the engine reaching to the ground) with a 100 watt trouble light under each side will help a lot. Also, a Harbor Freight heat gun (basically, its your wife's hair dryer on steroids) will heat up the manifold pretty quickly, then take the intake pipe loose and blow hot air in as you're turning it over will also help. Station assistant with heat gun, you turn engine over a few times, repeat as necessary. Once you get the inside of a diesel engine heated up, it usually will start pretty quickly.

As JD said you will need to change filters.
Kerosene is a good idea, but sill add Power Service White bottle
Or Howe's additive and Double dose it.

put 1/2 gal of Howes in the tank then fill the filter with it, start it up and run it to get anti gel through the whole system

There are much better solutions than them things. There are some blanket ones and one that you plumb into the radiator cooling system that heats the fuel. As others said change filter maybe get old fuel out of tank and go with K1.

It is best to eliminate a problem vs trying to compensate for a problem .
#1 diesel and a little IPA to absorb the water . Good to go.
